why do people think there card is better than others?

Card prices on ebay are all over the place. That's why it's good to be disciplined about price because you're likely to find what you want for the price you want by being patient. Of course there are exceptions, 1/1s, Jeter, high graded vintage to name a few.

So you go by actual book value not by what they sell for? I go by what sales are for the card. not total book value. If you think you will get full book value of your card than you are kidding yourself.
I am not trying to get the card "on the extreme cheap" If so I would keep throwing prices to him. I offered what the going rate is for the card.
So you would pay right now 500 bucks for a card that books 500 but recent sells are 200? Have fun.......

You still didn't tell us what the card books for.

I dont know what the card books for. i dont own a becktt subscription. I go by what recent sales of the card are. This card is a couple of years old. Back in the day maybe it sold for a bit but now a days they dont. Beckett doesnt adjust the values later on.
Are you going to answer my question?

you still didnt answer my question.. If a card you want books 500 (as it sold for that much when the card came out) and you see in the past year sales have been around 200. You would pay 500 for it beacuse thats what Beckett says its value is? If i went by beckett for the value of all my cards then i will be a very rich person.
And no that isnt the card

you are still missing my point. IF a card you are selling isnt moving. why sit there and pay all those fees to e-bay to keep it relisted? wouldnt you want to move it?

and you seem to be missing the point that if the money isn't NEEDED, there is no rush to sell it. It's always a tougher negotiation when people are just selling because they're not that interested in something anymore vs someone just looking for money. Mr. Mint has a great story in one of his books (I believe it was True Mint) about buying some memorabilia from the wife of late Yankees owner Del Webb. He made an offer, she thought about it for a day or so and said "it's a fair offer, but (insert counteroffer) would be much more fair" He ended the chapter by saying there isn't much negotiating you can do when someone is parking their Bentley in a carpeted garage.

bongo.
no.. sometimes people list things so they can say "look at all the great stuff I have up" and sometimes money isn't the issue, sometimes it is principle or price point or something else. I've paid over book for certain cards I need from time to time but I am dealing in serial numbered sets and dead famers. Calton is supply and demand.. there is a ton out there (like perry, jenkins etc) so while they have value the demand is not there. doesnt mean the value will drop necessarily it just means some may sit a while

So tell us what card it is. I didn't see another Carlton autograph on Ebay with a sale price of $50, with a second card also for sale with a BIN of $30, with rejected offers on it. Maybe I'm a lousy researcher, help me out by naming the mysterious card in question!!

Im not going to respond to your posts anymore. You stated your opinion and it seems like you want to take it to another level and im not going there.
have a nice day.

There are endless supplies of cards listed on ebay that will never sell for the asking price. If the owner is so inclined to sell, they will eventually adjust their price. If they don't, maybe they just don't care enough to sell it at all.

I have been watching a Panini auto card for months. The seller listed it for $150 OBO. I offered $57, as most were selling in the same price range, many for less. I felt it was a very generous offer. I had landed some similar cards as low as $35. He passed. I offered the same price a few months later and he passed again. He had one other offer, which expired.

Since he listed his, several have sold for less than the $57 offer I made, but his price still remains at $150 OBO. He can keep it and he probably will, as I have not seen one sell for much more than $60.

I'll never know why he expects so much for his, but I can bet that his mind won't be changed. On the other hand, there are more than enough sellers who start everything at 99 cents and let the market do it's thing and that is why there will always be bargains!

Exactly true, mrmopar. Every seller (& buyer) will have their quirks! I was interested in knowing the exact card bongo was pursuing because we could look at the sellers history & get an idea of what he sells, and for what prices.
If by his history, he is a half-off Beckett guy, or a 1/3 off Beckett guy, or an exact book value guy, you can get a picture of how he(or she) sells...
pretty simple, really- at any level.

very true. but if you are sitting on a card on e-bay for a long time doesn't that cost you a lot more money in the end to do that? I guess some just don't care but to me why waste money and time....Like others say. its there card and what they want to do with it is up to them but listing it on e-bay means you want to sell it. or move it. Why sit on it for months or even a year.

Listing on ebay doesn't always mean you want to sell it. Some people like showing off what they have, and the few bucks a month is well worth it to them to display it somehwhere that it gets that much traffic. If someone does happen to buy it, they can replace it and still be money ahead, if no one does, they get to keep showing it off. Between the 50 free listings a month and the reasonable insertion fees, it isn't that much for the exposure you get if you stick to basic auctions/fixed price listings.
