Mantle collection

Just wanted to show off my modest Mickey Mantle collection. Don't have the budget for the high end stuff so I stick to the "well loved" items. This is the focus of my collection going forward, along with Nolan Ryan and a few trade bait threads here and there. Feels good to start trying to pick up some stuff again, had to go into sell mode there for a while due to some things. Anyway, here is what I have so far.

Those are great...I think real nice condition cards from that era are unnatural-looking anyways, they should be a little worn!

Richard - I agree. The ones in nrmt will always be more valuable, but I like looking at the worn corners on one of my Mantles and imagine some 10 year old kid (like my Dad) carrying it around everywhere with him and showing it off to his buddies...the envy of the neighborhood! That being said, my '61 is pretty nice so it's not a bad thing to have at least one EX or so in the ol' collection!

My Mantle collection focuses on modern base/parallels/inserts since most vintage is out of my range (and since I rarely buy). I currently have one vintage Mantle ('61 #300).

Really like the 1964 Topps Giant. I have been looking for one for quite a while but the cheapest I have found one at a show was 50.00

Thanks! I was looking for this one for a while and had ebay send me notices whenever someone posted one as a Buy It Now. Finally got lucky as someone listed the one I have as a BIN for only $9.99 plus $1.95 shipping!!! Thought it was a GREAT deal!

Thanks! I believe I traded you a few modern Mantles in the past. The vintage ones are expensive, that is why I stick to the lesser grades. Still need both of his '65 League Leader cards, those are my #1 wants right now.

I've been considering a '62 Topps with Mays from Dave and Adam's for $50. It's graded a PSA 4, but it looks good except for damage in one corner.

Awesome collection! I don't know if I'll ever even own that many nice Mantles. I know you say it's modest but that is pretty dang good. I have to agree with you.. Lesser grade condition is A-OK. It just adds some character and carries memories. Keep going with that collection!

Incredible Mantle collection! Nice job. Yeah, Bob Costas agrees with the lesser condition is a-ok. He walks around with a Mantle vintage card in his wallet. My modest Mantle collection consists of the 96 Topps reprint set. Just need 2 more to finish it.

Pretty cool stuff...................It can get expensive though................Your '69 Mantle is in better shape than mine, mine would grade at a PSA 1 probably..............Keep us posted!

Few new pickups today (9-10). Have another one incoming, the '65 Topps WS card, will post a scan when it arrives. Thanks for all the kind words everyone. If it were not for fellow collectors like yourselves I would never have acquired any Mantle cards at all!
