One of the few 1968 Tigers still alive along with Mickey Stanley and my favorite player as a kid, Willie Horton. With McClain's lifestyle it is really surprising McClain is one of the few surviving '68 Tigers, He is said to have drank a case of Pepsi every day which is not something in the Jack LaLaine philosophy of heathy living. He must have great genetics to survive that.
Yeah and Winfield was a pitcher in college. Can you imagine facing that dude on the mound?

A mainstay of my very early collecting career. Two things I can tell you about Jimmy Orr. 1) he was the wide receiver opposite of Raymond Berry for many years with the Colts and 2} his 1961 Fleer RC is one of the 4 cards I need to complete that set. I need Billy Cannon, Earl Morrall, Orr and one other common/minor star to complete it

Very nice! 1974-75 Topps is the very first hockey set that I knew about. Seeing as hockey was a obscure, regional sport for us in Upstate NY it postdates my first recollections of football cards (1965), baseball cards (1966), and basketball cards (1971-72), And Phil Esposito was the biggest star in the game or at least he seemed to be to us outsiders. Now he appears to be an afterthought.
I agree that Esposito seems like an afterthought. I mean, look at the back of the card, he led the league in points 4 out of 5 years! What a player!
And I liked the fact that the midseason points leader got a $500 bonus. In today's money, that's $3,386. Which is now chump-change to professional players!

For me, getting into cards when we moved to MN, it was Baseball (Don Money was first card i remember in that first pack, ) Football (Greg Coleman ) and Hockey ( possibly Steve Christoff or Dave Christensen) I did not see a pack of basketball cards in SE MN until the 86-87 Fleer. Can't remember first card, but I know in the few packs i bought, i did have a Michael Jordan Sticker...
