I know what you mean, but:
A) The guy had a great career. Close to a .290 lifetime hitter, and over 2700 hits. It's a shame he's remembered for just that one play. He had a great year for the Sox in '86, and without him they don't even get to the WS.
And B) '04 and '07 make '78, '86, and '03 feel a whole lot less like a fresh knife wound in the gut every time you see clips from 'em. And without '78, '86, and '03, then '04 and '07 wouldn't have felt as sweet or as satisfying.
