I don't know how many of you are familiar with this issue, but I sometimes question my own knowledge about the large version when I see them for sale. I say this because the larger of the two versions (there is a small and large, identical except for size and a gold signature) has an autograph and the prices I sometimes see for them are sometimes oddly low.
I know ceramic cards are not the most popular and I can't find anything so far online that discusses the history of these cards, but I am 99.9% sure that these were authentic signatures. I bought a complete set many years ago and believe them to be authentic. I have subsequently bought several more Garvey cards and the signatures are all different. This would not be the case if they were facsimile.
The issue was 1000 per player for the large (signed) as noted by the numbering on back. The 5 players were Pete Rose, Reggie Jackson, Tom Seaver, George Brett and Steve Garvey...all potential HOFers at the time of issue and all were still active. We all know what happened to Rose and Garvey got the snub, but the last 3 are solid HOFers.
Long story short, I saw a full set tonight for $29.99 BIN/BO with $6 s/h. I didn't even hesitate and hit BIN. $6 delivered per auto!!! NO BRAINER! My only "hesitation" was that the seller listed them as having facsimile autographs. I nearly emailed him to correct the error and then figured, if you don't know what you're selling and don't ask or seek more info, you can only blame yourself.
Anyone else have any of these cards?
