Are these cards really worth that much? I went to the card shop today to get some Frank Thomas cards, and the guy had a one of these of Frank Thomas, the shocker was he told me it booked for $50. Which seemed odd to me because I have a bunch of these cards from Wal Mart when I was younger, somehow this one eluded me. He was asking $30 for it, which I found steep, I have bought a lot nicer Frank Thomas cards for cheaper than that.

20x multiplier, they came 1:6 12 card packs, 1:3 20 card packs, and one card per team set.

If it is card #121 then it should be $25 as the base lists for $1.25.

Yeah it was #121 thought something was weird glad I didn't pay for it. He was using some other internet priceguide instead of beckett.

Still seems odd these cards book that high, but I will trade him down on it at a later time. I have bought cards that look a lot better in my collection worth as much as it for cheaper.

Like any of the other cards from that era, they have taken a mighty hit on value, yet so many people are holding on to them at higher asking prices still. You can probably find several on ebay for cheaper.

They were hard to hit (specific players) back in the day, although you got one per box (for the regular SC FDIs), but that kind of rarity is all but gone now with 1/1s and print runs of less than 10-25 copies. I remember the 1994 Collectors Choice Gold signature Frank Thomas was $150 when they were new. Now you can probably get one for $10 or less. I'm guessing there were several 100s if not 1000s of those 1/box parallels in most cases. Remember how popular the Donruss Elites of 1991-1993 were, with 10,000 copies! They were still tough to find because Donruss printed a TRILLION cases of that stuff. Those still sell pretty well, but nowhere near their peak. I remember thinking if I could get the 92 Thomas for less than $100, I would be happy. Even the highly coveted 93 Finest refractors had close to 250 copies. Those were topping 4 figures at one time! Imagine paying $1000 or more for a card numbered to 250 now. People are still shelling $100+ for star 93 refractors like Thomas, Maddux, Ryan, Piazza, etc!

I treated myself to a similar $50 parallel, a 1993 Stadium Club 1st Day Issue Cal Ripken, a couple of months ago for $19 delivered. It was a specific set need card that I wasn't going to find in a lot or likely to trade for, so I weighed what else my $19 would buy and decided to go for it. They made 2000 of these, but there is probably a couple hundred still in unopened packs and then the rest have gone into collections, so you have to figure that demand is still higher right now versus on the market supply. You can go back to him in 6 months and chances are he still has it, but at some point you have to wonder if it's worth it for $5 to $10 you might save.

Well it is worth the wait, since I can't afford to shell out $30 for it right now thinking I will go through my cards and look for expensive ones I don't care for and trade him down on it and maybe give a little cash. I did get a good deal on the rest of the cards though, I just don't think anyone will give him $30 for it, other than maybe another Thomas collector who has the money to spare. I spent $40 on some other Thomas cards as well as Pujols and Griffey rookie. He had Topps Strasburg Rc(the regular one) and still wanted $25 for it and at last check that was what it booked for, would have given him $12. But he seemed dead set on $25.
