OK so everybody knows it wasn't really a giveaway. But has anybody had a problem with the cards. I got 36 cards redeemed and at least 13 of them were in very poor condition. I left two voice messages and sent one email so far and no response. Anybody have any experience with this.

Thanks, Bob

I think a lot of people have shared your experience. The LCS owner I know only redeemed 4 cards, and he hated the condition on three. The bottom line is that, yes, it was a giveaway (many other giveaways make the winners pay shipping or taxes) and Topps never claimed the cards would be mint.
The only gripe I've had with the promotion is that I was one of the ones to place an order right before they stopped the promotion, and after waiting for a month, I get a letter that says some of the cards were on back order. I thought the idea of this promotion was that Topps had already purchased the cards they were giving away. Not sure why there would be a back order. Maybe there have been too many condition complaints and they're trying to upgrade condition? Or that's wishful thinking.
Either way, you can be pleased with the 23 in acceptable condition!

I had a problem with Blaster 2011 Topps (5 boxes) where NO inserts in 4 of them, 64 cards in 3 of the boxes and several pretty bad condition cards. I followed the proper notification and return of receipt and UPC codes...

I was VERY upset with the response and the "please accept" these cards as a token of appreciation...

10 Diamond Codes

and

5-8 card packs.

Not sure what to expect, but if I were making decisions at Topps and retention of collector(s) was a focus, I would have definitely made a much better attempt at making the collector happy.

MLB created a topps monopoly, it aint good for the collector at all IMO.

@loftheb i also placed my order right at then end.
I havent received cards or a letter so youre doin better then me so far.

I received my requested cards over the weekend. The cards themselves were nothing spectacular, but I asked them to ship everything that was pre-1976. The 1962 Steve Bilko (#422) card would have been perfect for the "Cards You Put in Your Bike Spokes" give-away, there are multiple creases, rounded corners and an amazing amount of surface wear.
Long story short, I doubt I will be requesting Topps to ship any of the cards I've unlocked from Diamond Codes.

My $.02,
Marvin

after hearing all of the stories like this, I didn't even bother to request mine and I doubt I will request my diamond giveaway cards either.

like i said...these really were the cards your mom threw out..topps got them out of the trash can for you :)

As the same as last year's code promotion, Topps makes no guarantee of the condition of these cards. This was confirmed to me through a rude and curt e-mail from Topps when I got my shipment of absolute crap vintage. I was hot over wasting $300+ on these cards and in return Topps basically told me to get bent (like the cards they sent to me).

Go ahead and buy more of these codes at $3.50+ each.

I know that Topps is just about the only game in town now, but you think they would have more pride. I don't expect pristine cards but they produced them. They should have better stock on hand.

I had 15 cards sent to me and was happy with the overall condition. I know they were not going to be mint and I was fine with that. I only had the cards that were older than 1970 sent to me.

.

Like Jeffo65, I was very happy with the cards I got. I traded everything for 1966 cards, and the condition of the ones I've received so far was really pretty nice. The high numbers especially were great, mostly nr mt which was better than I expected. There were a couple dogs but I'm satisfied (so far - I'm still waiting on the final 15 cards or so, including a Strasburg.)

codes

I requested alll the cards I unlocked and still haven't recieved them. i am not concearned with condition, because I always expect the worst, when things are given to me.
Question for any one who has recieved theirs.
Do they send you any kind of list that shows the code that unlocked each card? My goal is to bind both the code and recieved cards together as sort of a package item. But unfortunately I didn't list the 2010 as I opened them, as I have with the gridiron and 2011 diamond giveaway cards.

They send you a list, but it does not include the code that unlocked the card.

Thanks,

Just got the rest of my cards. I was lucky enough to get a Strasburg, so I got free shipping. With that, I decided to empty out my account - meaning 118 cards, including the late 80s stuff (I tried to get an '87 Cubs team set for fun). I have to give Topps a couple of compliments here.
1 - The condition on the few 50s and 60s cards I redeemed (all Cubs) was fine. The '54 Jim Davis has rounded corners, but no creases or marks or anything. Great card. I will spare condition reports on all of them, and there are 3 or 4 with minor creases. But, they're giveaway stuff. I won't complain.
2 - This was a big plus for me: 6 of the 17 '87 Topps I redeemed came back as Topps Tiffany cards, including Rick Sutcliffe and Andre Dawson. A Doc Gooden '92 came back as a Topps Gold parallel - and not even a winner version. '93 Topps Luis Polonia and Frank Thomas/Fred McGriff All Stars came back as the Inaugural Rockies versions, and '98 Topps Rookie outfielders came back as the Inaugural Devil Rays version.

I'm not saying I got rich on any of the upgrades or anything, but it was a nice touch. They never announced that some would be variations, so it was a nice surprise. I wonder if they got any '91 Desert Storm versions.

With all the complaining that went Topps' way for this promotion (and some of it deserved), I thought I would throw them some compliments.

cards

I recieved my cards from topps today and was preety happy with the condition of some of the older cards, nothing special and not much, but glad to have had a chance to get a special one. Hopefully now I can get the codes used to unlock each.

Still waiting for my cards. Ordered them on the Last day. I sent an E-mail and was told it would be 4-6 weeks.
I ordered the Football ones last Thursday & received them on Tuesday. WOW. Wish the Baseball was that quick.

I was pleased overall with the condition of my cards, especially an almost pristine (except L/R centering) 1959 Gil Hodges.
Also liked the condition of a 1952 Wes Westrum.
A 1967 Giants team card did have a crease, and my 1955 Eddie Stanky was not great.
Received my last two from the 2010 giveaway today, and was pleased with the 1958 Ray Shearer and 1976 Rick Monday.
