don't know where you get no sales in 6 months - not correct. "pie" is on my ebay saved search list and i get a daily email of listings for the last 24 hours. i know the product - i track and actively buy & sell it. it's now a "niche" or non-sport product. it is not aimed at or intended for the sports card collector - hence no sports in the product. if a sports guy wants something with a twist they can buy ginter. i don't particularly care for the current AP issue but it is a pretty clearly defined product, not just another junk sports issue, with the "non-sport" crowd the intended audience. it is basball/sport free by design, not by accident. one can argue the merits if the current checklist/contents. anything with carmen electra & carrot top is certainly suspect.

I did a closed auction search for 2001 Topps American Pie BOX, and no sales were there for the last 6 months. I'm sure individual items from that set have sold, but no boxes. I can only go by what my search results showed me. Since you get daily updates, give me some item numbers of closed box auctions in the last 6 months, I am curious to see what you are seeing.
If it was designed sports free on purpose, why the name American Pie? As the original is already branded in collectors heads as a product with a sports connection, along with pop culture, does that not mislead when the same name is chosen for a markedly different product design? What if a pop culture product had the name 'Finest"? Or "SPX"? There would be some ticked off peeps..LOL

Interesting to collect, if you like the content...not sure about the investment...
Thanks,
Pete

If you don't like the set, then don't buy it. It's pretty simple. No use arguing about it.

I personally like this set, so I created a thread alerting other similar-minded collectors to its release. I'm disappointed it got sidetracked though...

You're comparing a one shot issue with brands that were on the market for years. American Pie is more branded in peoples heads with Alyson Hannigan playing a flute than it is with baseball cards. Most of the collectors whined about it because it WAS marketed towards sports card collectors and they found non sports cards in there too, so they went the other way, marketed it towards pop culture. If you don't do your homework on an issue before you plunk your money down, get used to disappointment.

My apologies for ruining your thread. Didn't think we were arguing, but discussing the very product you started the thread about. Sometimes a dissenting opinion can open your eyes to things you didn't see before.

Lets get this thread back on track!
