Well, I'm a little surprised by the value of the SPs and inserts. Anyone else?

I know I traded for cards assuming $5-$8 per SP and associated mini variation. Of course, that is at least twice what they actually book for.

I know, I know - there will be 15 people who say "If you wanted the cards to finish your set, then as long as you were happy with the trade before pricing came out, you shouldn't be bothered after prices came out." Or they will say, "Don't put so much emphasis on BV and you'll be happier" And yes, you are correct - and you are right - and I'm really just writing this post as a conversation starter... But, it's just that now I could have used my $8-$10 insert cards of Pujols and Jeter to get much further along in my set.

Lesson learned? Wait for prices before trading for a new set. But, we all know that won't happen :) Maybe the lesson learned is to trade within the set for my needs!

The SP's are booking around that, at least the "bigger names" anyway..............The Youkilis was at $3 and the Ichiro $8................Haven't checked the mini's yet, but would assume that they were in line with the A&G................It seems to me there are a BUNCH of SP's in the regular size set...................

Weird, I only collected the Rangers from the set and I think all the SPs were $3 except for Hamilton which was $4. The regular back minis seem to be the same price as the base card (even $1 cheaper for most). Thanks for the reply though - I'll take a closer look and see if Beckett is just prejudice against the Rangers :)

The pricing on SPs seems about right to me. Last year's GQ SPs booked at $4 for commons. I imagine they are a little less this year because the set was produced in much greater quantity. Also, there may be fewer set builders going after the photo variation SPs because they'd consider their set complete without "variations" whereas they would not consider it complete without true 301-350 SPs from 2011.

The Mini Black and Green commons did end up booking a buck less than I expected to; maybe I made a couple of trades a little in other peoples favor, but not a big deal, I got cards I was happy with and they are still tough to find. I had expected the back variation minis to book the same as the regular minis as they pretty much did last year. Even though the variations are more rare, the regular backs have much more demand because of people building sets.

This always happens to me when I try to put together a set! I get it day of release or close after and wanna get the set done ASAP. But then the BVs coe out and I get a little bummed. I understand completely what you are saying!! LOL!! Good luck!!
