OK, what version is this card.....

scan0001.jpg

Per Beckett.com, there are these parallels that I can't tell which are which:
2012 Topps Gold Sparkle #324 Alex Rodriguez#{Jim Thome#{Jason Giambi LDR
2012 Topps Golden Moments #324 Alex Rodriguez#{Jim Thome#{Jason Giambi LDR

So, basically, is this the Gold Sparkle paralell or the Golden Moments parallel?

Any help is appreciated!

:D

This is the Gold "sparkle" version, which seems to have replace the #'d gold parallel.

The Golden Moments insert set is labeled as such on card.

Hope this helps.

Actually, the one you have is the Golden Moments parallel.

I'm not sure why, but Topps decided to make an insert set called "Golden Moments" and issue Golden Moments parallels which are completely unrelated to each other.

I'm not sure what those "Gold Sparkle" ones are, I've never heard of them before.

See, this is why it's confusing! LOL!

I know of the Golden Moments inserts as I pulled a few. But, Beckett.com shows a Golden Moments parallel for each card as well as a Gold Sparkle parallel for each card. So, which is which? Is there only supposed to be one gold parallel instead of two? Thus, is Beckett wrong? (No surprise there, of course.)

:D

I think that is a Gold Sparkle parallel. The Gold Moments is an insert set. I see Topps has a 1/1 of each card. Not sure if that is what the Golden Moments parallel is.

Beckett doesn't show the Golden Moments parallels as being numbered, thus where the confusion lies. I can't tell if Beckett is wrong or if there is another parallel out there that is hard to distinguish.

Ack!

Hi -I just asked this exact same question on beckett and nobody seems to know. One theory is moments is from retail and sparkle is from hobby. that being said i have pulled one from retail that looks exactly like one I bought from a dealer of of ebay that was opening hobby.

Good theory! Makes sense so far. Though, how do you tell the difference from one another would be the next problem....

Maybe they are going to have something in the 2012 Topps Update series that has not been made yet like the Cognac cards from 2011 Topps Update. The Cognac cards were only found in the 2011 Topps Update product.

I can't help you with your original question, but it is a fine example to chime in on the confusion of too many similar parallels. When it becomes too hard to tell what you have, then the card makers have gone too far in my opinion.

At a minimum, maybe they need to consider indicating the card type of a parallel with a slight change to the number. For example, let's say you have an Albert Pujols Big Homers insert card and it's gold parallel, AP-BH and AP-BHG. Then they have a gold sparkle version too, but use AP-BHGS, and this continues across various other foils, colors and such. After all, are parallels really so similar that they should share the EXACT SAME card number too?

In a real life example, I saw a Garvey Panini card listed to 5 copies. Of course, I wanted it even though I thought I had the same card. I go after all copies numbered to 25 of less. I go to check my serial number and find that I have the same one the seller is offering, 5/5. Upon closer review, I see that the only difference is that one card has a gold colored box and one has a silver colored box on the front of the card. In the end, I didn't have the gold version and had no idea.

Yup, my thoughts exactly. ;)

The one thing I LOVED about Pacific trading cards is that 90% of their inserts has the specific insert name rounded around the card number on the back. Being a player collector and having thousands of parallels...the Pacific cards are by far the easiest to determine.

PLAYOFF AND TOPPS are notorious for not really caring. I think they substantiate it drives further sales chasing more parallels.

I'm not sure for certain. But not being able to locate an actual Golden moments checklist on beckett. I am under the impression that the golden moment price guide they listed is incorrect. And the shiney sparkly card you have is the golden sparkle. Hopefully they update the golden moments soon. I want to finish my tradelist.

Go all the way to the end of the Golden Moments checklist. After you reach card #330, the GM series begins.

Beckett has BVs on the 2012 cards this morning. The Golden Moments list does not have a BV until after the first 330 cards when the second set of numbers start. Which leads me to believe the "golden moments parallel" does not exist. The "sparkle" cards are "gold sparkle" and they do have a price. Beckett is infamous for not knowing what goes on and very seldom correct thier errors. Perfect example 2002 Topps set in Beckett list 719 cards in the set....cards 696 thru 719 were never produced and Beckett even has a value on them.

Oops, looks like I was wrong.

Stop confusing me, Topps! :)

If Topps never produced 696 thru 719, then I've got the only copies ever made.
