2014 Topps Update -M L B​

36 packs // 10 cards per pack
Look for one auto or one relic per box

I received these:

300 of the 330 base set - no dupes.... YEAH! (91% of the set)



Just like Series One and Series Two - Update has all of the same characteristics. HOWEVER, we now live in the age of computers and I can see the need to 'rush to market', but why can't the numbering of cards be done correctly? Nearly anyone can count to 330 and not skip a number or double 2 numbers.... and this design (why 2 places for card #'s?)

There are various short prints in this issue - including pink bordered, cammo bordered, sparkle (some list as SSP), clear acetate -#ed to 10, and the Sabermetrics back (I don't think I received one of these - I have studied the backs and don't seem to find one....)

Update - for those of us who collect sets - this is the 3rd installment of the base set. For the player collector - there are lots of parallels to chase and for the team collector, lots to chase there as well. One of my favorite parallels is the clear acetate - they just look cool (can't wait for the new Topps Tek!)

One insert that I did not list previously - are the manufactured world championship rings - silver, gold, gold with gems, gems/autos #ed to just 10 (saw a Koufax #ed to 10 on the 'bay - someone asking $399.) I like the ring cards - very thick - cool looking. I don't care for them be characterized as a 'relic' in the box... should be an added value.

I did not receive any autos in this box. All of the autos that I have seen on the 'bay have been stickers and that is as it should be in this set.

Overall grade B- someone has to learn to count!

Go buy several boxes and send the clear acetates and the ring cards to me!

Nice review Duane. Agree completely on the numbering in two different locations on the back. Also agree on the inability to number properly from 1- 330.

My biggest complaint with the set is the multiple inserts using initials rather than numbers. Numbers just make it easier to get everything in the proper order.

My box had a Kiermaier /10. If only I knew of a Rays fan. If you have any really similar Cubs stuff.

I sadly don't have a Cub acetate.... the only Cub insert from 2014 that I have is gu Marte jsy and an Ernie Banks framed #ed to 199.
