Marvin Miller Received signed index card

Even though he never played any pro ball, Marvin Miller revolutionized the game as we know it. My father was a union guy, and unions were really the only reason I was able to go to college, so you can guess I am on Mr. Miller's side. I sent 3/18 and received signed TTM postcard 3/25.

It's an absolute injustice that Marvin Miller is not in the Hall of Fame. No matter what you think about the astronomical salaries of people like A-Rod, think about folks like Walt Terrell. Dave Bergman. Frank Tanana. (Yes, I am a Tigers fan.) Without Marvin Miller's work, players such as these would have been taken advantage of. Even worse than during collusion!

Mr. Miller signed my index card, and it is going with my small Hall of Fame collection anyway.

That is a huge success! I love Marvin Miller! The most significant game changer in the history of baseball.

Want to know how much of a difference he made as the head of the Union? The year after free agency came into play in the winter of '76, the major league minimum was $18,500.

Yes, 18-5. That's it. Today it's $414,500.

While we may wax nostalgic and reminisce about the good old days when a player started and finished his illustrious career with one team, I have no doubt the players don't see those as the good old days. I seriously doubt they would like to work two jobs to make ends meet for their families like some of us do today in the real world, and how their predecesor's in MLB had to do in the '60's and '70's. You see, Marvin and the Union crushed Bowie Kuhn, the MLB Commish during Miller's tenure, and the owner's every time they went up against them. Today Bowie's in the Hall of Fame and Marvin is not. There's a reason for that, and Miller is quite aware of it. He's a smart guy and he knows. Miller can only be voted in by the Veterans Committee which is made up of HOF Players and Owners. There are more owners than players on that Committee, I'm afraid. To this day not a single owner has voted for him. It's wrong but that's how it is. I absolutely agree he belongs in the HOF. I would love to hear his induction speech.
