I sent a long shot to Carlos Gonzalez c/o the Rockies earl last season.
I got a note back from the Rockies stating that "a $25 donation is required for every item to be signed by Mr. Gonzalez". If anyone would like the info about sending a donation for him to sign your stuff send me a PM and I will give you the info.

Yea, Funny this is, I sent to Helton 2 years ago, not knowing about the donation, and he signed both cards for me. I was surprised that I got them back, after hearing that he did not sign without a donation this year.

Who?

The guy has one good year and he needs $25 to thank the fans for their support. PATHETIC!

I'll pick up a certified auto in 6 months for $4 Mr. Gonzalez, thank you very much! I'll let Topps feed your ego and your wallet.

I think it is a Rockies thing. I tried to get Hurdle c/o when he was coaching there and got a similar letter. Maybe the organization intercepts all fan mail and requests donations.

That is even worse then. Do they need the extra money to float payroll?

I realize that nobody is obligated to sign autographs, make appearances and such, but I feel like they ought to at least feel like they owe it to the fans. If we didn't buy cards, tickets, jerseys and such, then they would not all be millionaires!! Since we all help make them into what they are, it would be nice to get a little something back in appreciation, even if we choose to resell it for less than most make in one plate appearance or pitching appearance! Roughly speaking, the minimum salaried every day player gets nearly $300 an inning, assuming he plays EVERY inning of 162 games. Let's account for missed games and even extra innings and that probably evens it out, and I am using 2009 minimum of $400K!! Pitchers make around $1100 per inning they play, and that is being conservative in most cases (assumed 50 games per year @ 7 innings played).

Yes, on second though...they do owe us!

But it would be much more reasonable if they did the same rate the Tigers do of $10/card, $20/8x10 or smaller, no other items. I can easily afford this being a minimum wage, college student. The Rockies need to lower the price if they really want to raise some cash for charity.

Look at the good news, at least you got your cards back!

Actually, the Rockies (and their players) use the $25 per autograph to put towards their charity, The Rockies Foundation. The Foundation donates money and time to various organizations in and around the Denver area. So, for me, asking for a donation to go to a charitable cause is a bit more palatable. I do agree that asking $25 is a bit steep. I also agree that more players should take the time to sign autographs, as a way to thank fans for their continued support, especially during the tough economic times.

I do agree that the Tigers price is nice, and the Rockies do need to lower the prices, but I did not get my card back. :(
