Like a lot of big name stars, Jeter is expensive to collect... and there's a lot of competition to grab his cards, so people without deep pockets (like myself) sometimes have trouble.

I know I can never attain super collector status here (I only have about 2,300 of 13,000 different cards, although I have some nice non-card items). I thought about collecting someone else, but the only other person I am interested in collecting is Mattingly and his cards are also more in-demand than some others.

So then I thought "well maybe I can start a theme collection and maybe win best theme designation at some point." The ***** League theme is great, but doesn't interest me. Pitchers that threw a no-hitter? Not for me.

I know! Food! I could collect Coco Crisp and Chili Davis. Jim Rice. Phil Coke. I like food. Yum!

Then I was thinking "who else could there be in a food themed collection?" I was looking through some Bowman Draft the other day and saw a guy named Hamburger. I think it would be a fun undertaking, collecting "Ballpark Snacks" or something silly.

But alas, at the end of the day, I think I will just keep forging ahead with Jeter. I will never win any awards or special status, but I sure have fun Jeter-hunting (although sometimes it's discouraging).

Don't sell yourself short. You've been on this site for a long time and you know how hard it is to collect that many of one player, give yourself a pat on the back. I bet there are many Jeter player collectors that would be overjoyed to have over 2,000 cards of him.

Nice collection!! :)

That's not bad. I had attempted to collect Brett Favre when he was hot. That was expensive. I only got about 10%. Maybe if you removed the 1/1 cards for Jeter, the % would look better.

over 2,000 cards of jeter is a nice collection no matter how to spin it. That is a nice collection and alot of jeter collectors would love to have that. Should hold your head high and pat yourself on the back.

Don't forget Darryl Strawberry, Zach Wheat, Greg MINTon, Dave Campbell, any of the players with the last name Berry, Al OLIVEr, Hamon KilleBREW, Johnny Oates, Vinegar Bend Mizell, Jim BUNning, Hal 'Porky' Reniff, Tom Butters, Pickels Dillhoffer, Frank Onion, Eddie Mayo, Bob Spicer, Pepper Martin, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Bobby Wine, Cookie Rojas, Cookie Lavagetto, Rick Grapenthin, Brandy Davis, etc etc.. You could expand the horizons a bit and add Home Run Baker, John Butcher, Enos Slaughter, Aaron Cook, Chris Waters, Dice-K, Adam Eaton, Neal Heaton, etc etc.

You're making me hungry...

Never collect something just so you can get a little logo off to the side on a website. If you don't collect your favorite player/team that you have a real emotional attachment to, you will just end up getting sick of it at some point and selling your cards at a big loss. It sounds like you have an awesome Jeter collection, even if it's not full of patches, 1/1s, and autographs.

i'm creeping up on 2000 different MJ cards, 200 magazines, plates, newspapers etc...

i've applied for super collector maybe 3 times, but my percentages just arent high enough :(

i'm still a jordan collector tho, and will be to the end :)

don't give up my friend!

I'd never do it just to get a little logo, but I did think about doing it because it's different and fun... then I thought about it... so many different players, such as the ones above... Tim Salmon, Catfish Hunter, the list goes on and on. It would be more of a challenge than Jeter, most likely, just because of the sheer amount of players.

I also thought about collecting people named Schmidt, my married name, but I'd go broke on Mike Schmidt alone.

I'll stick with Jeter because it's fun, even though I get discouraged that I can't afford a lot of the nicer stuff.

Also, to those who replied with compliments and encouragement, thanks. :D

Did you make some of those names up? LOL, some are actually quite hilarious.

Sure, the percentage looks a lot better!

Jeter has 2,449 cards with a print run of 1... and 535 cards with a print run between 2 and 5.

So, over 3,000 of 13,200 Jeter cards have a print run of five or less. An overwhelming majority of those are 1/1s.

Don't forget Tim Salmon and Kevin Bass, Mark "Big Mac" McGwire, but as far as the Jeter's, that's pretty awesome. 2000 of anyone is pretty good feat. Be proud.

DITTO!!

Keep on going with the Jeter. It can be a pain at times and expensive. I collect Bonds and it's been a challenge. God only knows how of his cards I have along with the other collectibles. I keep looking and get what I can afford when I can. I still have a couple of Jeter's here for you. Hope you get to see the others I sent soon. Butch

Butch, thanks again for all the Jeters you sent my way. I hear you on Bonds, that's a huge undertaking, too! I don't buy many boxes or anything anymore, but if I do come across any nice Bonds cards I will keep you in mind!

Keep going after the Jeter's you can afford.. Broaden your interests where you can obtain affordable trade bait at good prices and attempt to obtain Jeter's in trade... You'd be surprised how many collectors have duplicates of cards you don't have... The opportunities are endless...I'm not saying it's going to be an easy endeavor...but it may not have to be too too expensive, again, not accounting for 1/1's, etc.. You're doing great so far!! I'm already impressed with what you DO have!! You ARE a Jeter collector in all of our minds...
Well done!!!

Pete
