Adding an image to a post

I've been a member for years and have never had to add an image in a post.
How do I go about it?

Normally you use the img codes to post your image or scans. When you click on new Thread...about the 12th box shows an image of tree....if you click on it...it ask you for the codes to post your image. Best regards, David
