Another Trader Ethics Question

So let's say you have a couple of cards advertised for trade in a thread. You get multiple responses all at once. You get a few offers, nothing too earth shattering, and nothing you were particularly looking for in the first place. You then elaborate on some things and people get back to you with some trade lists. Now out of nowhere you get a new message from someone who is offering EXACTLY what you were hoping to be offered. Should you then be obligated to make a trade with your initial responders seeing as though they have taken the time and effort to get a list of tradeables together? Do you just be honest with these same folks and say that you are no longer interested, that the cards have been traded?

What is the most tactful way to handle a situation such as this? Opinions would be much appreciated.

Me personally I would follow with the first trade offer.
Let the one know that offered you exactly what you are looking for if he be willing to trade his card for another.

Me when I say a trade is done it is done and the card is no longer mine it belongs to my trade partner.

Its does hurt to ask trader #1 but if he says no that is the final answer. If he says yes you will need to keep in mind on your next trade or you may have lost a trader altogether.

That is why I say first responder will have the honest shot at getting the cards I post even though someone else may have offered something better by I am obligated to my word.

I guess I should clarify, in the scenario I am talking about nothing has been finalized. Trader A has posted cards to trade and Trader B is still making offers. Mainly coming back with a list of some cards they have of players that interest Trader A. There really isn't even a full outline of a trade at this point. Just some back and forth.

I should also clarify that this is a problem I have been experiencing on another site that I trade on. The problem there is that there is really no board to speak of. You basically post and then it is e-mail correspondence from there. Where gets so little traffic the responses tend to trickle in over the course of a couple of days.

Gotta be Sportscardfun.....as long as you haven't promised or agreed to a trade, you can make a deal with whom you want to. Its all about your word, if you explain that you are looking for offers, it doesn't mean the first offer gets it (IMO).

I've never felt that you had to take responses in the order received. There is no obligation until the trade is confirmed, but if someone prepared a list specifically for you then I would understand some hard feelings. I don't know exactly what I would do. I don't have a golden rule as to how to handle this. If the list required a lot of work, I might go with the first. The value of the cards would have to be taken into account and also the chances that you will ever find the card that you really want again.

There is nothing wrong with weighing your options before going forth.... what infuriates me is when I get a list together for a want list for a trader and they never get back to me after I've spent time looking through their want list because going through someone's list can be very time consuming....

I would personally just be honest. I will tell the ones who are offering or who provide a trade list that if there is nothing I can use or that interests me then I let them know straight out. N sense in beating around the bush when you don't need to.
