Send a box of cards to some players that don't have very good success rates?

Besides autos I collect Cardinals and probably have 7,000 - 8,000 extras from 1976 to present. Some cards I have up to 10 extras of and while going through them morning must have up to 100 extras of some Cardinals players. I was thinking of sending a box of 100 or so cards to say Ozzie Smith (no successes since 2008 on SCN) or Pedro Guerrreo (11% success) or Todd Zeile (15% success) asking them to sign a couple of cards and keep the rest for whatever they want, give out or to have cards to sign and donate for charity requests.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this, if it would work? Am I out-of-line? What the hey, give it a try? One, I might get an auto of some tough Cardinals and two clear some room in my Cardinals monster boxes.

I think this is a very nice gesture on your part. However, it would surprise me if it resulted in a success. Chances are if these players have a low success rate, they have a large number of cards on hand from previous (and potentially future!) TTM requests.

If you are looking for an autograph success ... perhaps instead of spending the $5 on shipping, send the amount to the player (cash or check) and write "Donation Enclosed" on the envelope? I had success with Robin Yount using this approach.

Would love to hear if you try this experiment and whether it resulted in a success.
