anyone here collet 1956 topps? ive always loved that set. not sure what it is, but the 1956 topps set always seemed like a good set to collect to me. anyone here workin on tht set? any tips for anyone just starting out on tha set?

I am working on the 1956 Topps set as it is my favorite looking card of all time. Its my first attempt at a true vintage set and it is a work in progress. I started out buying lots on eBay and keeping the ones I wanted and putting the ones I did not want back on eBay. This way I was buying them for as much as I was selling them for so it was a wash. I figures I was only paying for the ones I wanted to keep.

The commons are easy to track down on the internet and like any vintage set you can pay as much or as little as you want as far as condition goes. I traded for a few 56s on The Bench but not too many.

Good luck on the set and if you get any doubles I would be interested in knowing.
Thanks,
Don

Decide what condition you're collecting first. Then I'd suggest biting the bullet and getting the bigger cards out of the way first if possible. It makes it a lot easier to just give up if you're at a standstill and staring at a stack of commons missing the Mantle, Williams, Mays, Clemente, etc. If you've already got time and money invested in it, you're more likely to keep going. Having similar material to trade helps, most people with 56 singles available are either dealers looking for cash, or vintage set builders looking for trade. It's not a huge market segment that is willing to take a recent Bowman Chrome rookie for a Killebrew 2nd year, even if BV were close
