Anyone else feel this way about their collections?

hey guys, am i the only one that feels like my collection keeps growing and growing. i mean i have cards EVERYWHERE! how do you guys keep your collection in check? the easier way is to just throw out alot of my cards and start over, however the problem i have is that i have boxes and boxes of autos and gu and rookie cards that are worth something, so i cant just throw them out, but also been hard to find buyers with this economy, so im sitting on alot of cards right now. i could put them on ebay, but i dont want to have to package up 500 packages a week for auctions that end at 99 cents! i was thinking about maybe making team lots of autos and gu and vintage and putting them on ebay. not sure what to do, any suggestions? what do you guys do when your collection has simply grown out of control? thanks for any input.

I would list on Craigslist. You can move stuff locally fairly easily depending on how much you are asking. Much easier than eBay. No shipping and no fees involved.

Where do you live so I can go through your trash. LoL!! I would try Craigslist as well. Just put a lot of 15-20 game-used cards up for purchase. Also, if you are just trying to blow them out, sell 15-20 cards lots of each sport (basketball, baseball, football, etc) and start the bid at $9.99. Just a suggestion.

Yep, I've got 23 5000 ct boxes next to my bed back at home that I need to find a home for before I return for my fall semester here @ UNCC.
I'd like to back it down to 10 or less.. But 10 is a darn good goal.
I think the best way to move them is player lots, especially when you have over 50 of them.. Even if you may not get a ton, the one or two cards that move a lot are worth it when you can package 48 more of them that will sit for years..

I sell my junk gu/autos at frank and sons for 50 cents - $1 each. I've taken whatever I can for my unwanted stuff just to move it.

If you don't want to throw them out, and don't want the selling hassle, you could always go in between.

When I open packs at card shops for fun, I often leave anything I don't want lying on the counter for the next kid that walks in. I've given away nicer stuff to kids as well if I hear they are into a team/player and I have something on hand.

Boys and Girls clubs will take cards too sometimes.

Try Checkoutmycards.com to sell them. That's what I've done with all the stuff I had trouble getting any trades for. I've sold a fair amount.

The balance here is getting something for them or nothing at all and how much effort you'll need to expend. It depends on what you need. You can certainly find numerous ways to donate the cards if selling them isn't worth the effort. Hospitals, B&G, Little League, etc. I'm sure kids would appreciate them. My son is playing flag football now (he is 6) and the coaches give them cards and stickers after games and practices. None of them follow football at that age, but they are excited by getting the cards.

If you want to sell them with little effort and don't care, sell larger lots. Cover your postage costs and let the market decide what they are worth. If you need a certain amount for them, then selling in smaller lots and singles is probably your only option. Prepare to invest some time though and expect some level of disappointment. If you don't want them, then most people probably don't want them either.

thanks guys for your posts, i wouldnt say that i really dont want my cards, i guess what im trying to say is my collection is growing and growing and growing, and i was just wondering what you guys do when your collections grow and grow, how do you stay focused on collecting goals?

If anyone has any Yankees they don't want Please pm me ..My brother has a little league team named the Yankees and he is getting card together to give to the kids at the end of the season

I just buy bigger houses as my collection grows.

Actually, mine has become somewhat excessive over the years. It really showed this last move we made. I have it contained within a bonus room that is roughly 1 1/2 the size of an average bedroom, underneath the stairs (around the size of a small bathroom, with a low ceiling) and in the garage, if you can consider that "contained".

I don't like to get rid of anything though.

My Sammy Sosa collection eventually got this way.

At around 500 cards, I broke down and worked on a checklist. However, I did not organize these cards at the same time - just went through, made an Excel spreadsheet, and sorted that. Furthermore, I failed to update the list as time went along.

Now my Sosa collection sits somewhere between 800-1000 cards (I'm guessing). Beyond my game-used, which I have a pretty good list on, I don't know what's there. My base and inserts are in multiple binders with no real organization. As a result, I have suspended my efforts to pick up more base and inserts; I'm going to focus only on a few game-used right now.

My Wright collection sits at around 170 cards, and is much more organized. I have most base/inserts in a shoe box row. They are all organized by year, although a few Topps sets may be out of order. A few cards aren't in the box (better autographs), but I know what I have.
