I recently completed 3 trades and my condition went from 5.0 to 4.9, I don't know who gave me the low mark and I don't know why. I have sent messages to these people, but I'm just surprised that someone did not have the courtesy to contact me first. If you are not happy with cards recieved I would think you would notify the trader. Myself if I was in the wrong I would make it right. So I guess there someone I will no longer trade with. Thanks for putting up with my vent. Mike

I agree with your sentiments that you should be contacted before leaving a bad rating and don't know if someone did ding you but what I see is your rating is still a 5.0.

I have never traded with you, but I agree...if someone isn't happy - they should let you know some specifics. I do believe, however, that the Trade Manager drops both the lowest score and the highest score for every 10 trades. I could be wrong about that, but I remember seeing something about it when the TM was created.

You can give your partner a rating between 1 and 5, with 5 being the best and 1 being horrible. The trader ratings are confidential, so no one will know what score you have given.

Trader ratings are based on a minimum of ten ratings. For every 30 ratings, the highiest and lowest scores will be dropped. The Bench's software automatically recalculates the trader ratings every evening.
Heres the information from the FAQ section. Best regards, David

I suppose a condition rating that was lower than 5.0 could be addressed and corrected. However, what about a packaging, delivery time and communication. I know you are not addressing those at this point, but they all go into the overall rating, of which yours is still 5.0. You can't fix those after the fact. I

f you misrepresented the condition of the items you were trading, even if by mistake (small flaw unnoticed by you perhaps), it's still not unreasonable for someone to grade a trade partner fairly and honestly. It would be nice to work out the issue, but maybe that is considered a hassle to the other party?

There are always reasons for poor performance in any of the categories. Some avoidable, others not. Some minor, others major. Some unexpected, others planned. There is a basic expectation with regard to trading: You get the item as described, packaged for safe delivery in a reasonable time frame. If one can't trade under those circumstances, other than an outright emergency that is communicated appropriately, then they should expect to see a low grade here and there. Communication is important too, but I think it becomes even more so if there is an issue rather than a plain smooth trade. Often times, the trade itself, the payment and the feedback are my only "correspondence" on trades. There was no need for anything else.

109 of your trades have been rated so you have a solid base there. One person giving you a lower score is not going to drop you from 5.0 to 4.9 all by itself. This means more than one person has thought your condition rating did not deserve a 5.0.

This is also the reason we drop out the highest and lowest scores every 30 ratings, helps weed out the anomalies and reflects a better true average.

I don't think it's necessary for the person giving a poor rating to have to explain themselves. If I make a small trade and the card is not in tip top shape, I may be upset, but more often than not, it's not a big enough issue for me to approach the other trader for a replacement card or a reversal on the trade. If it's a higher end card, however, that would be a different story.

So for a higher end trade you would do what ? Not "approach" the other trader for a "reversal" (whatever that means), you'd just leave a bad rating ?

Maybe a better thing to do would be to just tell them you're not happy and try to work out a solution before ruining their reputation ? MAYBE ?????

Clearly you didn't read what I said.... If I make a small trade and the card is not in tip top shape, I may be upset, but more often than not, it's not a big enough issue for me to approach the other trader for a replacement card or a reversal on the trade. If it's a higher end card, however, that would be a different story.

What I am saying that if I make a trade for a $1 card that's really not overly important to me, I'm not going to press the other trader to send me another card or send my card back in return for the damaged card they sent me (trade reversal). If however, it's a higher end deal, and I get a card worth $50 or $100 that's damaged, I will be more upset and contact the trader about rectifying the situation.

Ruining their reputation? It's not my fault that the other trader is the one who packaged poorly, didn't deliver in a timely manner, had poor communication, or sent damaged cards. If the other trader is not doing this, why should their rating reflect that they are? Why have a rating system if you're only supposed to give top notch ratings when the situation does not warrant such a rating?

Thanks guys for all the replys, I guess I just had to vent a little, glad to know alot of you think like I do. Thanks Mike

That is right on the money. If traders, sellers or whomever are being rated on their performance, they should deliver the best possible service. Sometimes you get an odd situation, where someone may be unreasonable and The Bench is trying to help compensate for that by dropping hi/lo scores every 30 ratings. Imagine if ebay did that??? There is always going to be a reason for poor performance. However, the true service shines through on everyone the more they trade or sell. A few bad deals get averaged out, but if there are many, it WILL show. A feedback rating is pointless if we don't rate honestly and The Bench and Ebay (for example) both have systems in place where people can do so without fear of retaliation (something ebay had to fix eventually). Like ebay before the fix, a seller's natural tendency is to retaliate if a buyer ranks them poorly, whether they deserved it or not. I experienced this numerous times when leaving negatives for terrible service and getting one in return for merely mentioning that this seller performed poorly, this after paying promptly!! That is not possible here, so ratings should reflect real world experiences.

In the future, think twice before going the private message route. I still remember getting one about four or six months ago....from a fellow member who wanted to know if I was the one who lower his or her rating! Best regards, David

guess what - easy fix. don't send crap - INSPECT your cards. note flaws, dings etc and either make it known or don't list/trade the card. ship SECURELY. problem fixed.
