As for a pitcher I would have to say Pedro Martinez in his prime. I was stationed in Connecticut when he first got to Boston and saw the majority of his games. It was almost unfair to watch him pitch against other teams. Ken Griffey was the best all around player I ever watched but my father always said that he was nothing compared to Clemente. He said to watch Clemente play was poetry in motion and no one will ever be as good.

hey mm1sub
your father was correct about Clemente I saw him play many times when i was a youngster Sandy Koufax was the best pitcher
I ever saw also
some others
Stan the Man
Hank Aaron
Willie Mays
Bob Gibson
just to name a few

I was born in 1981, so counting players I have seen:

My favorites:
Bo Jackson
Willie McGee
Jamie Moyer
Mike Sweeney

Greats of the Era:
Ryne Sandberg
Frank Thomas
Ken Griffey Jr
Nolan Ryan

Nolan Ryan, Carl Yastrzemski, Derek Jeter ( yeah I know, Sox fans hate Yankees, but as a baseball fan, he was one of the best.) Jim Rice, Greg Maddux, Rickey Henderson.

Thanks,

Johnny Bench
Ted Simmons
Tom Seaver
Steve Carlton
Phil Niekro
Gaylord Perry
Joe Morgan
Brooks Robinson

I loved to watch Clemente, my favorite by far of course. Whether he was the best I ever saw I am prejudice.

Mays, Aaron, Banks, Kaline, Rocky Colavito, Randy Johnson, Nolan Ryan, Bench, Griffey, Koufax/ I loved to watch the bat control hitters too. Gwynn, Carew, Brett were some of my favorites. They seemed to be able to put the ball where ever they wanted too.
Some really big players who could do it all; Winfield, Dave Parker come to mind. The Hawk Andre Dawson was a favorite too. Great thinking of all these guys again.

Would have LOVED to see Roberto play, he is the greatest!

Miguel Cabrera

Maybe not only my lifetime, but possibly the best hitter of all time. I wish I could have seen Mantle, Kaline, Clemente etc, but based just on numbers Cabrera is at the top of my list.

thanks guys for your responses. i would of love to seen clemente play and also aaron and mays. i wish now i would of had the chance to see jeter play. i think it is cool when one player can stay on just one team for his whole career, like ernie banks, clemente, mays, mantle, koufax etc. are there any current players who will be in the HOF one day, that have been with one team their whole career besides jeter. verlander, david ortiz, felix hernandez and david wright, mike trout, clayton kershaw come to mind, anyone else?
