I decided to hit a show today. Not something I do very often anymore, as the online deals are almost always better than at shows, but it had been a while. This particular show charges a small admission fee. Although I do find it hard to believe a show of that size would charge admission in the current state of the hobby, they seemed to do OK with the volume of people. It was only $2, so nothing to cry about.

Unlike most of the other collectors there, I brought nothing. No list, no price guide, nothing to trade or sell...just some money and an open mind. About all I had considered buying would be autographed cards and maybe some Dodger oddball items. I got there about an hour after the show opened (Doors opened at 9AM...too early to get up on a Saturday as I am roughly 20-30 minute drive away!) and browsed the entire room. There were maybe 30 different dealers set up. Nothing jumped out initially, but I wanted to see what was there before buying anything.

On my second pass, I started looking through stacks and boxes, flipping through albums and just gazing at the cards in the showcases. I do miss the fun of a card show, I will admit.

In the end, I didn't find much I really wanted (or that I could afford). I only brought about 60 bucks cash, but brought home change too.

The highlights:

1961 Topps Vic Power autograph $5
1973 Topps Dock Ellis autograph $5
1980 Topps Mariners Prospects signed by Charlie Beamon $5
Donruss Recollections 88D Sid Fernandez for a buck
A couple other auo'd cards of nobody super special @ $1-3 each
(8) 1983 Nalley's Potato Chip boxes w/ Mariners (2-Zisk, 2-Perry, 1-Caudill, 3-T. Cruz) $5
1986 Mainers Team Signed OAL baseball w/ Al Cowens and a few other decent players (maybe 15-20 signatures) $10
A small stack of 60s and 70s singles, mostly semi-stars.
1975 Hostess card Album $3
1982 Davco Publishing Roy Campanella $3

The shows runs through tomorrow, if anyone local has time to go. It's worth a look. Lots of vintage, oddball and even some magazines, SLUs and new stuff.

Enjoyed that show when I lived out there. About the same experience as you had. Not much for me but I enjoyed looking at everything.

I do miss the cards shows.....haven't been to one in about 5 or 6 years now....since they cancelled the labor day shows in San Francisco. Best regards, David

i miss the shows they used to have around here. well, in peru when i lived there, lol. they'd have one at the mall every 3 months. one in particular that i had gone to, i talked to an old ***** league player. can't remember his name, but he was a catcher, and caught a year or two with satchel paige. noone else was around, so i ended up chatting with him for about half an hour. had a great time!

meliah, if you can list a few guys that you can think of, i'd remember his name if i saw it :)

I went to it Yesterday. Not to bad. I put up a thread with some stuff I picked up in the Baseball Cards FT/FS forum. mrmopar you gonna go to the show in Tacoma at the Elks Club on the 26th? Gar and Boonie will be there signing for a fee. I figure I will check it out.

Darn I totally forgot about that show, went to the yearly show in the summertime at the same location the past 2 years (my favorite pickup this year was a signed 1986 Topps Traded Jose Canseco XRC for $5). Was the guy with the $1 bin of GU/autos there? Guess I saved myself some money by not going. Just as well, the Meridian shows are usually more concentrated on vintage and Mariners stuff than I prefer.

Went to the Supermall show put on by Twin Oaks last month as that is only 10 minutes away from me. My favorite pickups for my A's collection there were a 1997 Bowman Chrome Refractor RC Miguel Tejada for $15 (t/b centering was not great), and a 2011 Bowman Chrome Prospects Refractor auto/500 Yordy Cabrera & 2007 Bowman Chrome Prospects Red Refractor/5 Chad Boyd for $10 each. Not the best deals on the planet but it's always more fun to find stuff in person.

Lots of guys caught Paige, or at least said they did 40 years later:)

Check out my site Paul and let me know if you see the guys name on my collection list.

Hopefully...one day...the National will show somewhere on near the West Coast! Thanks for the review of the show in Seattle. Best regards, David
