I decided to hit a show today. Not something I do very often anymore, as the online deals are almost always better than at shows, but it had been a while. This particular show charges a small admission fee. Although I do find it hard to believe a show of that size would charge admission in the current state of the hobby, they seemed to do OK with the volume of people. It was only $2, so nothing to cry about.
Unlike most of the other collectors there, I brought nothing. No list, no price guide, nothing to trade or sell...just some money and an open mind. About all I had considered buying would be autographed cards and maybe some Dodger oddball items. I got there about an hour after the show opened (Doors opened at 9AM...too early to get up on a Saturday as I am roughly 20-30 minute drive away!) and browsed the entire room. There were maybe 30 different dealers set up. Nothing jumped out initially, but I wanted to see what was there before buying anything.
On my second pass, I started looking through stacks and boxes, flipping through albums and just gazing at the cards in the showcases. I do miss the fun of a card show, I will admit.
In the end, I didn't find much I really wanted (or that I could afford). I only brought about 60 bucks cash, but brought home change too.
The highlights:
1961 Topps Vic Power autograph $5
1973 Topps Dock Ellis autograph $5
1980 Topps Mariners Prospects signed by Charlie Beamon $5
Donruss Recollections 88D Sid Fernandez for a buck
A couple other auo'd cards of nobody super special @ $1-3 each
(8) 1983 Nalley's Potato Chip boxes w/ Mariners (2-Zisk, 2-Perry, 1-Caudill, 3-T. Cruz) $5
1986 Mainers Team Signed OAL baseball w/ Al Cowens and a few other decent players (maybe 15-20 signatures) $10
A small stack of 60s and 70s singles, mostly semi-stars.
1975 Hostess card Album $3
1982 Davco Publishing Roy Campanella $3

The shows runs through tomorrow, if anyone local has time to go. It's worth a look. Lots of vintage, oddball and even some magazines, SLUs and new stuff.
