Does anyone collect slides, regular photos and wire photos of their favorite player?

I am becoming convinced that there is a secret society that dictates the price of these items on ebay. It has been a great long time since a nice wire photo, negative/slide or new pose has come along that was not $10-15 plus $5 shipping!

There are a number of sellers who sell various slides and photos, usually starting at $9.99 w/ $5 shipping. For me, that is too much. There are practically endless different versions out there and I could easily go bankrupt trying to buy them all for $15 each.

I have been thinking about sharing this conspiracy for some time, but it was tonight when a seller flooded ebay with photos with a BIN of $14.99 each. At least this seller has a very reasonable $2.50 s/h charge + they will ship additional photos for free! Still, they have listed 76 Garvey photos tonight and they appear to still be coming in.

If you do collect photos and don't mind the price tag, this seller might be your new best friend! Over 40,000 listings...

I collect them. I've been getting the Sporting News wire photos recently...seems that these various archives are becoming more and more available as print media becomes archaic

I think the price $9.99 has more to do with not wanting to sell something at .99

On the other hand, slides I try to get for $1 or less (in quantity) or a bit more for a unique pose. I currently have 400+ slides of my player.

I collect them when I find them. I own about 50 to 75 of them from 1960 and earlier of Dodgers. They are great to get signed. I also own about 1000 hollywood ones. I bought them from an old women whos husband passed and worked for a newspaper. They are pretty much all 1960 and earlier as well.

I do agree that some on ebay are too expensive.

The wire photos don't really have much interest for me, I think if they were around $5 shipped I might bite for some of my guys, but I look at it as a real oddball item where you really have no idea how many variations there are so why bother. The only way I'd be interested in one at $10+ would be if it were from a memorable moment in Trent Dilfer's career, such as winning the Super Bowl or a college bowl game victory.

With 35mm photo slides I do have interest if it has something on it saying it was for a card company, and ESPECIALLY if it was the actual photo used on a card. I've got a few Mark Mulder slides that were from Pacific Trading Cards and the slide used to make Tim Hudson's 2001 or 2002 Fleer Triple Crown card...kind of like a printing plate 1/1 in my opinion. Making a 1/1 parallel with the photo slide in the card would be a cool idea (sort of like those Leaf Slideshow inserts from the 90's) but I guess everything is probably digital now so there aren't any slides.
