What is your favorite baseball set from the 1970s? I personally would have to go with 1977 Topps (first year I collected) with 1971 Topps and 1975 Topps coming in close behind.

I still remember that first cello pack from 77...

Man, I'm getting old!

for me its a toss up between 74 and 79, i guess its lots of good memories in them years and the bubble gum was good then too lol.

Funny, my mom always let us kids get a candy bar while at the grocery store. I would get a wax pack of cards...thought I was "one upping" my sisters because I got cards AND a piece of gum. They only got a candy bar! Ahhhh, the good old days (of 25 cent wax packs)...

My first packs were 1978 and I have always liked the clean design. However, I really like the 75-77 run as well, for the clean, yet very colorful designs and the action shots, the special cards and such. The 73 and 74 sets also have some great action photography. You almost can't tell who the player named is in some shots, but they are some of my favorites. The 70 set is a favorite of mine too, with the plain grey borders. I'd like more "action" poses and less giant head shots and boring batting poses though. he 70s had some great set designs...probably the best era overall across a 10 year run than any other.

If I had to pick just one, it would be 1977.

71 is it for me.....especially card #298 (my namesake). Pulling that card from a pack as a 9 year old made me a bb card fan forever. 72 is close cause of all of the funky designs and clear photography in series 6/7 but 71 wins it by a nose!

Without a doubt 1975 Topps-But lets be honest here the entire decade of the 1970's had just awesome sets

I have to agree with the second part but I am going to go with 1974. I think that was the first one I really completed (though years later). Still have fond memories of it.

Thanks,

Jeff

1970 was my favorite, a very clean design that let the photos stand out. Then I'd go with 1974 and 1979.

Number One: 1971...love the Clemente and some of the action shots...Cookie Rojas, Vada Pinson, Nolan Ryan.
Number Two: 1974...love the celebration of Aaron, the New All Time Home Run King
Number Three: 1972...love the design and the Boyhood series.

The first packs I bought as a kid were 1975's - might be the reason it is my favorite, but I just like the wild colors. I also love the 1971 Topps - working on that one now.

I remember when I was a kid, finding my cousin's stash of 1977's at my grandmothers house. I had never seen cards before, and she left me have them..I will always remember the backs, so I'd say 1977 for me. (I was only 4!)

1972 with the different kinds of subsets..................Especially loved the traded, with Morgan, Robinson, Wise, ect.......................

I love the 70 and 71 cards. Simple but when in a decent condition are really sharp. I did not start collecting until 1989 when I was 11 so have no memories collecting these outside of recent years.

Unless you mean the IA subset cards, the 72 set had more giant head shots than any other I can think of and few, if any, real action shots. 71, 73 and 74 had the most action shots per set I believe, although they incorporated more game action stuff after 72 across all the sets. I actually like that year the least myself because of the border design and all those giant heads!

i like the 1972 series. Nice action shots and cool style.

This got me thinking, although '75 is probably my favorite year of the decade, I think my favorite card of the decade might be the '71 Topps Bud Harrelson:

Probably the best action pic I've ever come across on a card, not to mention a young Nolan Ryan included as well in the foreground.
