hey guys, as many fo you know one of my PCs is also collecting GU jersey and bat cards. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars on this PC and today when I was looking at all my game used cards my brain started to wander and i asked myself..."how do we REALLY know if game used cards are really game used cards?" I was thinking what if in a few years we hear that these cards that we thought were actual gu, were in fact not! then i would have thousands of worthless gu cards! i guess i would still keep them because they are just cool looking cards. but i have decided today to stop spending tons of money on them until i hear some opinions, advice, guidance on this...your thoughts please.

You're correct. We don't know and that's a risk you take in collecting game used cards.

So you're waiting for US to convince you to keep buying GU cards? *shakes head* Real or fake, they're overproduced pieces with contrived rarity. LOOK at your GU bat cards, aside from a bat barrel card with the name on it, how many hundreds or thousands of cards can be made from a single bat, or uniform? players can use multiple uniforms a game, and for currently active players, that means 162+ uniforms available each season. Even if the the card companies 'only' buy 3-5 a year, over a 5-20 year career that's a huge supply of jersey swatches available, with a ready supply if they DO exhaust those. Add in the 'event used' out where they can get a player to wear it at a public speaking engagement, the 'kids clinics' before Sunday home games, the winter caravans, etc., etc. They are essentially worthless now. Go to shows and see how many gu are in the dollar bins, even some big names. I've picked up Ripken, Ryan, Pujols, Jeter, Bonds, A-Rod, etc all for $5 or less. Look up Johnny Mize... a jersey swatch from a HOF'er who has been deceased almost 18 years and played his last big league game almost 58 years ago sold for $4.03 delivered. A 6 section piece with bat AND jersey swatches /9 sold for the price of a blaster and 3 extra packs. How do we REALLY know autographs are authentic? Unless you witness the player sign it himself, ANYONE can say they saw Eric Davis sign those team Topps stickers, it doesn't mean they did. You can play the what if game about pretty much anything. What if they didn't really change my oil at the service station last week? What if Toyota didn't really fix my accelerator? We've seen cases where PSA and BGS made some pretty silly mistakes over the years (Henrietta Dandridge auto and 1982 Topps Blackless with the players name in black come to mind), and if THOSE can get by, surely a good fake has a chance. Don't sweat what might be, collect what you enjoy.

i guess my point in saying, im waiting for opinions on buying gu cards, is that instead of sitting on ebay this evening and buying hundreds of dollars worth of game used, id rather wait and see what the opinions are before buying. ill probably always but hof and dodgers gu because those are my PCs, but for other players, i would probably not buy if most people think gu cards are not the thing to buy. another spin on that is, ill alwyas buy a koufax, drysdale, snider, campanella gu, but might now pass on a longoria, ortiz, mauer, utley gu....sorry i wasnt a little clearer on that :)

Normally into gu cards.....However, I avoid the expensive patches and gu stuffs....Lots of people mess with that stuff....Things like....taking out the gu jersey and inserting a patch or logo. Best regards, David

I also thought about this, now I shifted my collection more towards vintage stuff pre 75 vintage..I still collect game used of some of my favorite players
