I haven't sent off any TTMs in a few weeks, but I was able to snag a great in-person auto tonight. Dean Smith, a 1949 Topeka High School graduate, was in town for a discussion about the segregated basketball teams at the time.
Wanting to win, Dean pushed hard for African Americans to be on the same high school team. His influence helped the two teams unite a year later in 1950.
Anyways, after the panel discussion Coach Smith was gracious enough to sign a few autographs. I was lucky enough to get him to sign one of the evening's programs.
I consider it a great success.
