Let's assume you are given a job by a card company to come up with new card subsets. What is an Insert Run you would include.

Include subset title and at least ten participants. Production runs are optional.

I'll start.

1. Justin Verlander
2. Ken Holtzman
3. Johnny Vander Meer
4. Jim Maloney
5. Sam Jones
6. Mark Buehrle
7. Don Wilson
8. Allie Reynolds
9. Bob Forsch
10. Virgil Trucks
11. Steve Busby
12. Dean Chance
13. Bill Stoneman
14. Jim Tobin
15. Hideo Nomo

Step down production level
16. Jim Bunning
17. Warren Spahn
18. Randy Johnson
19. Walter Johnson
20. Bob Feller

Lowest production level
21. Nolan Ryan

I would include a team redemption subset. It would include all of the players from ...lets say the Twins from the product.....what so special about that? It would also include all of the twin players on the team who were not included in the product! So their would be 7 players from the product and the remaining X number from the team. Best regards, David

Another idea that I had back in 1997......in 1996 Pinnacle had a special insert called Big Bang.....16 players in the insert and you had a regular refractor set and a mirage set of the same players. I wrote to Pinnacle about inserting a redemption Big Bang card.....called you name the player! Had to be a current player and not minor league or non sports players. So If you could ask for your favorite player and it would be your special 1 of 1 card. Pinnacle wrote back to me (before they filed for bankrupty) stating that had their own people who were paid to think of new ideas. Best regards, David

Topps Chrome Futures

a 20 card set featuring players in what uniform they might be in 5-10-15 year from now cards would be serial numbered to 5/10/15 there would be 3 colored variations black, blue, red black would be numbered to 5 blue numbered to 10 and red serial numbered to 15

Hall Of Shame
For a set like A&G

Could have serious ones as well as funny ones.
The list could be very long, but off the top of my head........
Blacksox scandal players AND all associated
pete rose
barry bonds
rae carruth
oj simpson
magic johnson
michael vick
john daly
roberto alomar
mike tyson (mmmmm, tastes like chicken)
barrack obama
ty cobb
gus frerotte
serena williams
basketball coaches who threw chairs
absurd celebrations

short print subset could be all about knucklehead fans that fell/jumped out of the stands, ran onto the field, etc, etc.

Now very dated in its concept, but I thought it was great at the time and I did get honorable mention in a Basketball Beckett about my idea for a design your own inserts card set. The concept was centered around the then very popular Dennis Rodman and would be called "Dye Cuts".

The card was envisioned as being a flair type quality/thickness, like the 93 baseball issue. It would be die-cut to the shape of Rodman's head, like the Fleer Team Leader set from around 96-97.

Here is where it got unique in my mind. The hair portion of the card would be a felt-like material that would be different colors and the version of the card got progressively harder to pull. I went w/ 4-5 versions at the time, ranging from a 1/box hit to a 1/case hit. Now remember that this is when 1/case hits were something special too!

Fast forward to today and I am not sure I would even care enough about new cards to come up with one. If I did, it would focus more on design layout, photography and subjects who don't have a billion cards already and less on gimmicks like foils, die-cuts, holograms, etc.

HOF players that played their entire career with 1 team:
1. Mantle
2. Bench
3. Brooks Robinson
4. Banks
5. Gwynn
6. Ripken
7. Puckett
8. Joe D.
9. Yaz
10. Teddy Ballgame

Maybe a few "on the verge"
Jeter
Chipper

I like the guys who stayed in 1 place.

I couldn't tell you the players but what I though would be cool is an insert set with the design of the players' Topps card the year before they were a rookie. I might not be making any sense, but, for example, a Kirby Puckett card with an 83 Topps design, the year before he was a rookie. Maybe even show them in their minor league unis.

Best idea.

My idea is kind of like David's. I'd like to see "authentic" cards of older guys in uniforms that were never shown by Topps. Something like this:

Would only be interesting for the long time, hard core baseball fan, but "Famous Fans."

-Morganna, the Kissing Bandit
-The John 3:16 guy from the 70's
-Steve Bartman (sorry Cubs fans)
-"Wild Bill" Hagy (1979 Orioles)
- Hilda something or other from the Brooklyn Dodgers

Something along those lines.

How about the goat curse guy, his name escapes me at the moment.

Ok, my set would be designed to educate fans about a very important sabermetic statistic. I think it would work nicely as it would bring together older players with a newer concept.

It's called "WAR what is good for?". It features the top 50 all time WAR leaders and the back of each card does not feature a bio on the player but rather a description of what WAR is.
