Hey, all. As I write this, I'm in my hotel room in Cooperstown. I'm attending and presenting at the Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture. Today was the first day of the conference and it was just as awesome as it was last year. So many smart people and fascinating ideas!
John Thorn, the Official Historian of Major League Baseball, delivered a great keynote speech. I caught up with him in the Hall of Fame bookstore and he signed my copy of "Baseball in the Garden of Eden."
This is a nerdy thing to say, but I loved the structure of Thorn's responses to the intelligent questions he received. He answered with crisp and eloquent brevity. When I look at my writing, I realize that I can only choose two of those three adjectives.
