They have a reserve price, most of the key cards are graded.

I would still need to send in the others to get graded and kind of spoils the fun of piecing the set together one by one :)

That's what I was thinking, not much of a challenge to just buy the entire set--makes it a lot easier though:)

How much do you think it will go for?

Only 1 card missing Lajoie #106...and since not all are PSA, but most of they key cards as I listed below are and are higher than a 1. I would say it might get $5K in bidding, but his reserve is probably set higher.

I just bid on it to get the ball rolling...$950

#19 - Bill Dickey - SGC 3
#29 - Jimmie Foxx - PSA 4
#47 - (missing)
#53 - Babe Ruth - PSA 2
#89 - Tris Speaker - Global 3
#92 - Lou Gehrig - PSA 3
#119 - R. Hornsby - Good 2
#127 - Mel Ott - PSA 4
#144 - Babe Ruth - PSA 3
#149 - Babe Ruth - Global 5
#154 - Jimmie Foxx - PSA 4
#160 - Lou Gehrig - PSA 2
#181 - Babe Ruth - PSA 2
#188 - Rogers Hornsby - G/VG
#207 - Mel Ott - PSA 2
#211 - Hack Wilson - Global 2
#216 - Lefty Gomez - Global 3
#222 - Charley Gehringer - PSA VG/EX 4
#223 - Dizzy Dean - PSA Good 2

You're right......I think this is one of those "pride projects" that you can stick your chest out and boast after you've pieced it together. All the fun is gone when you get it all in one whack.

Oh I agree for sure. I remember back to when I finished the 1970 set in the late 80s how good I felt. I can only imagine how doing a set like this will feel. I cant even think about attempting something like this.

Thanks,

Jeff

General consensus is that the hunt is the fun of it all. I agree !

The journey is virtually always more important than the destination.

I have never really paid attention to set pricing, but you can't seem to touch the Ruth cards for less than a grand each so that is 4K right there. I would think the set would sell for more, but I could just be getting sucked into the whole/sum of it's parts theory.

Of course the rule usually applies that the whole is not always greater than the sum of it's parts, as people buying usually don't need an entire set and don't want to pay as much for the whole thing. Sets will almost always sell for less than the individual cards would sell for separately, assuming you could sell all of the individuals (33 goudey = yes!!, 1988 Topps = no!).

It's at 10K and still has not reached the reserve.

Have to admit that surprised me that it hasn't reached the reserve yet at that price. Makes me wonder if he really intends to sell or is just shopping the value.

He has a 55 Bowman set at BIN $2,200 ... tempting :D
