I’ve been accumulating statistics for my Prince Fielder Personal Collection.
One of my stats is how many Parallel sets or “Rainbows” I have consisting of 5+ cards.

For instance I have ’08 Topps Chrome base, Refractor, Xfractor, Blue and Copper making 5 different.

I think I’m being pretty strict on what I consider same….For example I have 11 different '08 Heroes base, but if I included the Auto and GUs of the same # I'd have several more.
Should Base, Base Bordered, Minis, GU and Autos all be considered variations of the same card if they have the same set #?
I’m starting to think I should include all cards with the same #'s. Am I making sense?
I realize I can do Whatever I want, But I want to know……………What do you guys think?
:D

For supercollector status there is no single qualifier. Percentage of cards, gu, autos, base, condition, etc, etc, all contribute to the evaluation. Submit all your stats and they'll vote on it. Good luck :)

I understand the Process of trying to be a "Super Collector" On the Bench. That is Not what this thread is about. Thank you for your Response.

I see your point......I have a rainbow set of Ken Griffey Jr. autos from the heroes set 11 in total...but theres about 11 different base cards and a few of the gu cards! Therefore, a true rainbow set would include all of the above as they have the same number! Best regards, David

Yeah.., or should you consider each set a Rainbow? Gu Set, Auto set, base set ETC. Or Mix them up into One?

I think that in the case of the 2008 Heroes which seems to be a little different than most sets, I'd personally say that each individual card with all of the different parallels would be the rainbow (base and GU/Auto not together I'm saying)

In the case of any of the chrome sets I tend to think of a rainbow as needing to have all of the components. Superfractor and red border 1/1's generally excluded but like in modern 2012 Bowman terms for instance I'd need the Base, International, Purple Border, Ice, Blue (/500), Orange (/250), Red Ice (/25), Chrome, Blue Wave, Refractor (/500), Blue Refractor (/250), Purple Refractor (/199), Gold Refractor (/50), Orange Refractor (/25), Red Wave (/25), Red Refractor (/5)

Obviously I don't have anything quite like that but when I hear the term rainbow that's what jumps to my mind

A true Complete Rainbow IS having ALL available..(Other than Printing plATES if you ask me, as they are Printing Plates and not Cards)
I'm talking about "Rainbows in Progess"......I guess......Sort of.
I used the term Rainbow so you guys could Understand what I was getting at.
Bowman doesn't always have the same Card # as it's Chrome Counterpart.
So your Suggesting one could Combine Bowman and Bowman Chrome, in a "Rainbow" even with different set #s?

I think that if the cards are numbered the same and look the same except for a color variation or finish variation (refractor, foil, etc), then they should be considered part of a run.

If the same style card features versions with GU and/or autos and are still very similar looking to the base and parallel cards, then I would probably include those as well. I would have to include printing plates too, as they are the same too. Getting all of them may be tough or nearly impossible, but that is what makes the "rainbow" so special.

I guess luckily for most, the cards with the GU and AU are usually somewhat different from the base cards and they aren't considered as part of the run.

Depents on the collector......I consider my 11 2008 ud heroes of Ken Griffey jr. a Rainbow set of his autos....so I consider it a separate rainbow! Best regards, David

I would say Rainbows definitely include 1/1s but I have not usually seen them include printing plates...maybe that would be a double rainbow  . On a set that includes GU and/or auto versions of the card that look the same and have the same number, it would be diffucult to call it a true rainbow without those versions. Like for Eric Chavez I have his 2003 Leaf Certified base and Mirror Red/100, Blue/50, Gold/25, and Emerald/5 versions...if I got his Mirror Black/1 I wouldn't really feel like I had a rainbow because he's got GU and autographed versions of all of those Mirrors out there, as well. Well, it would be all the different colors though, so technically it's a complete rainbow...ugh cards are so complicated now!

Sooooooo, this thread is about whether you consider yourself a supercollector or not ? (Your Title) I understand your questions concerning what is considered a rainbow or not but what does that have to do with being a supercollector ?

Just asking. supercollector ? rainbow ? What's the quetion ?

My title says "Looking for Opinions on a Supercollector Stat". Stat meaning a Statistic not (my)Status. Thats what the thread is about, not sure how else to put it. I'm just looking for opinions on how I should Maintain this particular statistic. I understand what a Rainbow is, I was using that word as opposed to "Parallel sets" Hoping to make it easy to understand.

"Should Base, Base Bordered, Minis, GU and Autos all be considered variations of the same card if they have the same set #?"
Did you read my original post?

For example should I group the Heroes GU set with the Heroes Auto set with the Base set seeing as they all have the same # (though listed as different sets).
