no not free.... I don't usually post IP successes from public signings, but was excited to add this to my collection and just had to share with somebody!! lol. I had past on getting his autograph the last 3-4 times he's done signings in the area due to the cost, he can be pretty costly... but this time around I said enough is enough... I gotta add this to the collection and meet the legend!
My turn comes up, he looks at my Whalers jersey and says "There's alot of memories for me in that logo". I said "oh really? you enjoyed your time in Hartford?" he responded "well, I got to play with my two boys there, made a Hell of a difference". I thought that was nice... it was about family, not about money or playing in a resort destination city like players today (i.e. LeBron).
He was such a nice guy. Great experience, glad I finally went thru with it.

That's Gordie Howe, my friend. Gordie returned to the game in the early '70's, when his son's Mark and Marty joined the Aeros of the WHA. Gordie wanted to play with his sons and joined them here in Houston. It was a thrill watching him play in the old Sam Houston Coliseum and the Summit, and it was a lot of fun seeing them bring a pair of AVCO Cups to Houston.
Gordie's response to you doesn't surprise me. I wrote him many years ago, telling him much of what I just wrote on this thread, and he wrote me back. I have a ALS here at the house, where he describes how much he enjoyed playing in Houston and playing with his sons.

That's cool, yeah Howe's prices are usually all the same. From what I've been told if you catch him and his wife at a Red Wings game or even a Griffins game he won't sign anything for you but they will give you one of their signed post cards.
I was fortunate to get Gordie in LA back in 1989. Class act all the way.
