I always try to write a little something about their career that I found interesting and maybe add some of my personal opinions if they can relate to the player such as religion or whatever else interests you and have in common with them. I then ask them kindly to sign my cards and keep a few if they want to if I've sent more than 1. I then thank them for taking time to read my letter and I look forward to hearing form them.

always be polite and honest and make it as sincere as you can...I've found that that helps a lot...even for the tougher signers...you never know if you can possibly get them for free because you made their day...hope this helps

just like he said, i even say its ok if he cant or wont sign the cards, some of those guys get so many letters and to be real, alot of people send cards to make a buck.
