I'm thinking about buying a high end box along with a Jumbo box of 2011 Topps Series 1. And since I only purchase these types of boxes maybe once a year, usually Triple Threads, I don't have a ton of experience with them.

I'm not interested in Bowman Sterling since I don't care about prospects and rookies, but I've never busted a box of Topps Sterling and I'm thinking about getting one of those since you can get established players. I know they are notoriously bang or bust, but most high end boxes are.

So I have to ask, is 2010 Topps Sterling as good as any other Sterling or is there a better year to purchase? Also, is there another high end product you think is much better value?

If the price of Topps Sterling has come down then I would say give it a shot, but to pay 250.00 and get two GU'ed cards is no good. I would rather take my chances with Triple threads. You will get 1 Auto/gu and 1 GU.

I think 2006 topps sterling is the best year. It seems like since then, the quality of the product has gone downhill. Also, I don't trust topps with their retired game used materials and have stayed away from sterling and triple threads.

Don't know how much you want to spend but some fun higher end boxes I've busted in the past were--

2006 UD Ultimate Collection

2005 Donruss Signature Series (hard to find)

2005 Prime Patches(I think price went up so much now though it's not worth it anymore)

2007 Bowman's Best--my favorite one. Solid price (Usually at $170ish for the full hobby box with the three mini boxes inside) and you get lots of hits with a very good grouping of potential names, 9 autos per box alone:)

2007 Ud Black--Pretty hit or miss thanks to the names in the set can be very rewarding if you get that good pull--2 pack box is $110ish.

So everyone seems to be of one mind that Sterling is just too big a risk. Ok, I'll can see that since there's not even a guaranteed auto.

Meliah, 2006 Ultimate Collection looks interesting since you get 7 autos. But are those autos mostly just rookies? Or do you get a fair number of veteran players as well?

Here is the breakdown for a box of 2006 Ultimate, doesn't seem to be a 7 auto kind of box.

4 packs per box, 4 cards per pack
Each box contains the following:

- (1) Rookie Signature Numbered to 180
- (1) Dual, Triple, Quad, Five, Six, or Eight Signature Card numbered to 50 or less, or an Autographed Dual Memorabilia Card numbered to 35 or less!
- (1) Dual, Triple, or Quadruple Memorabilia Card numberd to 50 or less!
- (1) Dual, Triple, or Quadruple Memorabilia Game Used Patch Card numbered to 50 or less!
- (1) Ultimate Bonus Pack

You will not get loaded down with rookie autos since they made sure one pull alone would be from them. The rest are vets, current stars and a smattering of retired stars/HOF. Fun box to rip due to the different types of cards you pull and the price is around $200ish these days. I'm actually surprised these are still able to be found.

Thanks for all the advice guys. After thinking about it, I decided to stay with Triple Threads. I couldn't justify spending over $200 for a box, and with Triple Threads, at least I'm guaranteed a triple jersey auto and not just two relic cards.

I'll let everyone know how the box turns out when I get it. Thanks again.

Triple Threads is a better pick. Sterling can give you the ultimate reward back, but it comes with high risk as well.

Good luck, you've got a lot stronger stomach than I do. I try to talk myself into buying a box like that and then always end up doing a completed listing search that shows me I could buy a Winfield triple GU/auto, Banks triple GU/auto, Kell triple GU/auto and a Prince Fielder triple GU/auto all /18 for about the price of the box, and then I talk myself right out of buying the box. I wish you the best.
