I'm new to these trading sites & would like the opinion of some of the Veteran traders around here on what to expect, what to trade, etc....

I collected hot & heavy from ohhhhh 1997-1999, buying everything baseball, all the brands, all the wal-mart multi pack boxes (the ones where all the packs are the mid-80's - early 90's stuff. I have NEVER pulled a big card but I do have alot of base cards from a lot of sets, Ive got a lot of it boxed up in 400ct boxes just random years, sets, players (stars, unlisted, semi & commons) & was just gonna ebay them. My question is I guess, should I try to put it all up on my "for trade" site, do all you guys really wanna trade for 80's & 90's base cards, or just ebay out the 400ct lots.

Next, & most important to me is.......Its clear & I understand nobody on here is gonna buy or sell at BV & thats fine, but when it comes to TRADING I try to go BV for BV as close I can, that just seems fair to me. Im not sure how that is going to fly on these sites & I guess that is why I am asking. I am certainly not trying to get the better of any trade, but I dont want to be on the losing end of all my trades either. 99% of my stuff is going in my PC so I am not looking to try making money on my trades either.

So I just wanted some opinions on my BV for BV frame of mind when it comes to trading, all answers, serious answers I should say, will be appreciated & used to continue my trading with you guys here, Thank you!!!!

Welcome to the Bench first of all. It is definitely the norm but it depends on what you are trading for. If I am trading for a card I really want for my PC or to finish off a set I might trade heavy in the other persons favor. Or if I am giving up high dollar cards for a bunch of smaller ones I might ask for the trade to shift my way. Most of the traders I have come across on here have been VERY easy to get along with. As for all your base cards, there are quite a few set collectors on here and you may be able to move some of them that route. If you are trading base commons I wouldn't expect to get full book in trade unless I was getting base commons in return. Another way to go is to establish yourself on here and maybe package them up in flat rate boxes and once you can go ahead and sell them that way.

Good Luck
Vince

Hi,
Welcome to the bench! BV for BV trading is normal unless you are trading AU or GU for inserts/singles in which most demand a premium for. Not to say you will have an easy time of trading $10BV worth of singles for a $10BV rookie card. I think a lot of people are still looking for cards from the 97-99 era including myself so selling them in 400 card lots may not be what you want to do. I see right now you have some 1998 Finest on your www that I could use:1998 Topps Finest NOT PEELED - 77, 97, 98, 103, 115, 117, 127, 129, 136, 139.
LMK if interest in trading them for something on my www, thanks, Craig

yes, welcome to The Bench. I would be interested i knowing if you have any 97-99 Bowman International parallels as I am collecting those sets. If so, I can send you a list.
Thanks,
Don

Welcome to the Bench!

Good questions are what you asked. BV for BV is the way to trade, unless you are trading commons for something that is more desirable to the general trading population. Example: You'd have a tought time getting someone to trade you a $40 Ken Griffey Jr. RC for $40 worth of commons, unless that person is a true set collector and the comons are tough to track down. As for your 400 ct. lots.....unless the product is from mass produced late 90's sets such as donruss and score, you might do alright with ebay. If I were you, I'd make sure to pull out ANY inserts and put those on in seperate auctions. You might be surprised at what some of those late 90's inserts sell for!! Good luck!!

Welcome to The Bench.....

BV for BV is a good to use, as a guide. In the time I've been trading here I've found that in the long run your trades will eventually even out, as far as BV.

There are some extremely generous traders here who will help you with your personal collection without batting an eye and when you have the chance to pay it forward during a trade with another member you get the chance to contribute to making this site the best site around.

Thanks,

Frank
