What do you think of the HOF chances of:
1. Dwight Gooden
2. Darryl Strawberry
3. Bernie Williams
4. Jorge Posada

I think bernie williams has a small chance. strawberry back in the day was THE MAN! and gooden, was the best pitcher for a time in the 80's. your thoughts please.

Posada, has had a nice career, not sure if hof worthy, but he has been pretty consistent.

None of them meet the eye test. And two of them couldn't pass a drug test.

In their first year of eligibility, Darryl Strawberry got 1.2% of the vote, and Dwight Gooden got 3.3% so they are not eligible anymore.

yes, i do like hof questions because thats what i collect! i like them because there is so much great insight here and its nice to hear other peoples opinions. i appreciate and respect all the great inputs.i wish the hof would allow us to vote for hof members instead of who votes now. how cool would that be if the hof vote was a public vote? :)

hey guys, i added jorge posada, forgot to add him originally.

sorry for the hof posts guys, just trying to have some friendly baseball related conversations here and trying to contibute here to the site. not at all trying to irritate anyone!

Gooden was a shooting star, but flamed out too quickly.
Straw never lived up to his potential, though he had some awesome years.
Williams was a good player, but not an HOFer.
Posada doesn't have the numbers, nor was he the dominant player a his position for any period of time.

JMHO.

Have to say no to all 4 players there. They all had solid careers with some great years mixed in there but not HOF material overall in my opinion.

The public can't figure out the right players to put in the All Star game, there is no chance they would get it right with the HOF. Do we really want the Philadelphia newspapers starting a campaign for Shane Victorino or the Boston newspapers starting a campaign for Jason Varitek or the NY newspapers starting a campaign for Nick Swisher?

Does the HOF voter base need an upgrade..yes. But it doesn't need the publics help in the final vote.

As for the addition of Posada..no.

Gooden and Strawberry, not unless they become amazing announcers.

Bernie Williams is the poster child for a "Hall Of Really Good."

Jorge shot his chances in the hindquarters this week, but maybe. More likely than the other three.

bernie has best shot and that is a slim shot. If you want to know who has best chances, just look to last yeats HOF balloting. Obviously some of those players you mentioned are not retired the minimum 5 years. Here is a list of people who played on Yanks at some point in their career and the percetage of votes they got on 2011 election. Keep in mind 75% of vote needed to get in HOF.
Tim Raines 37.5%
Don Mattingly 13.6%
Tino Martinez 1%
Al Leiter .7%
Very Weak showing!!

Doc and straw, no
bernie, loved him, more solid than the above, but no
jorge, possibly, he's a catcher, his offensive stats compare with
other catchers in the Hall

just my opinion, i like the debates of hofer's
who can say that someone is right or wrong
on some of these guys,
santo, trammel, oliver , parker, madlock, smith relief pitcher, whitaker
morris, t john, hodges,
plenty of others

I'd say no to all four of the players listed. Solid careers but not HOF worthy.

After their first few years both Gooden and Strawberry seemed destined for the HOF. It shows you how quickly things can change in a players career due to injuries or off the field issues.
From a card collectors perspective it also reflects how how today's hot cards can quickly flame out, and you are stuck with RC's and other cards that are worth not much more than commons because the players never lived up to the speculated potential.
