I realize we all have different styles of collecting. Some of us are player/team collectors, others are set builders, others are prospectors or as I like to call us Rookie Monsters (R is for rookie thats good enough for me) and of course many of us do a hybrid approach with different percentages to each style

My question for those of us who player collect and build sets is: when you get that 1st card of a guy you personally collect but need for your set, where do you put it first in the set or your collection?

When I was putting sets together I always put the first card in the set then tried to get one for the player collection.

Since I collect team sets, it always goes there first. Otherwise, it looks like a sad little hole in the set. I get one for my player collection when I get a chance, but I never get all the player's cards anyways.

I think that depends on what you consider yourself first. In my case, I am a set builder first and team collector second so the first one always goes in the set. Also, since I only build certain sets I dont usually go after a second Sox team set from the sets I have built.

Thanks,

Jeff

I'm like 90% player/team collector, 10% set collector. So the card definitely goes into the player/team collection first.

I would put it into the set first. Had to think about it for a little though.

I don't really work on too many sets thatthe guys I collect are in but the sets i do have that they are in I always finish the set first.

I'd normally go sets first, especially because a set is more likely to be completed than a player collection. If I was working on the 2004 Bowman Chrome Gold refractor set and I got the A-Rod gold ref, it'd put me much closer to realistically finishing the gold refractor set than the player collection. I'd much rather have one collection finished and one open than two open when one COULD be finished

I put the players I collect in my set and consider the block checked. Money is a finite resource so I do not see a need to have multiple of the same cards.
