Anyone else having a lot more problems than usual with the post office? It seems in the last month or so I have been screwed by them more and more. I get boxes from traders that look like someone has jumped up and down on them, I get bubble mailers that look like they been stomped on the floor for days, and I send cards packed in hard card holders that are bent in half.
What is going on? Prices go up and up and service goes down the toilet. I guess from now on I'll have to insure all my stuff and start making claims on everything so I can get my money back from them. I almost wish they would just close down and let someone else take over, but I guess no one would be stupid enough to take it.

I mailed a couple cards to a fellow trader on 12-30-11 and he still has not received them! :(

My g/f bought a book on the Barnes & Noble website and we received it damaged with a stamp from the P.O. saying that they received it damaged, which is complete BS because you can tell from the damage that the book got caught in one of their conveyer belts and someone forcefully removed it.. along with a big corner chunk of the packaging and book.

Sorry about ya'all post offices. I never had a problem yet (knock on wood) & hopefully never do. It seems that the USPS just don't don't anymore. I ask my carrier the other week about when & if they were gonna stop delivering mail on Saturdays & his reply was, "If they do it wouldn't be til in the Spring, I hope so because I hate working Saturdays." I thought to myself yea working Saturdays does suck besides the extra money! Hopefully ya'all POs get better at doing their jobs.

I recently had 8 Raul Ibanez printing plates destroyed on their way to Florida. The good news is that it only took them 3 weeks to get there. I have them back now because obviously the buyer doesn't want them, I have no idea what to do with them.

I normally use the little "self check out" machine in the lobby...several times I have gotten the items back with "postage due" even though I put the exact ammt of postage that the stupid machine tells me I need. Not sure why it does that, but it's the biggest issue that I have had with the PO lately.

Haven't had problems in a long time but in addition to a similiar one last week I got this one back yesterday. There's nothing wrong with the package or postage and the note doesn't even make any sense. Whaaaaaat ????

based on the message attached , it would seem the package is less than 3/4" thick which would make it a first class envelope (which does not qualify for DC) rather than a first class parcel which does qualify....

that said , assuming the weight listed is correct , it seems unlikely that the package is not at least 3/4" thick so perhaps a bit of human error....of course if by chance it is NOT thick enough then the message is correct...

in my experiences , i've found that the vast majority of shippers have no clue about the minimum thickness requirement ...fortunately i've only been hit with postage due 4-5 times when i know in reality than well over 50% of my packages arrive too thin and therefore technically should require enough postage due to cover an upgrade to priority rates....

I had a trade with cheiftazmisty that I sent out the thursday before thanksgiving, he received them three and a half weeks later, just as I was about to send replacements. (one being a David Ortiz rookie card!

The PO i Used in Baltimore when I lived there was atrocious. In two years of trading through that PO, I lost over a dozen packages (inbound and outbound). It was very common for me to always add in the 1-2 dollars extra for insurance, even if the item was 3 bucks. The insurance had saved me over 300 dollars worth of losses at the time (three autos went missing, each at separate times, one valued at 200). Even had a delivery confirmation marked delivered on a day the delivery guy handed me my mail. It was not even in the stack.

I moved to Fort Meade and mail out of Glen Burnie and Millersville PO's. Never had a problem since. They're even extremely friendly! But they are expected the slow down in May with hour cutbacks and layoffs. The Millersville PO has already scaled their hours back by an hour at night (6PM to 5PM) and on Saturday (3PM to 11AM).

The PO is crap and they just dont care anymore...The Fed Ex guy throwing the TV over the fence....The PO not caring about whats in the package...:(

I, like others have issues with some of the things the Post Office does, but a blanket statment like "the PO is crap" is just ridiculous.

Like any industry, they have employees that are sub-par and they have employees that are exemplary.

If I buy a bag of apples at the grocery store and one them has a soft spot, does that mean the entire grocery industry is crap? the entire produce industry? No, it means I bought a bag of apples and one of them happened to be bad.

It actually surprises me that with the volume of mail the Post Office handles, that there aren't MORE screwed up packages. If they were as bad as everyone thinks, we would have a new thread every day with 20 people saying how their mail arrived in poor condition.

To be honest, I am surpized this doesnt happen :(

Okay, then go walk the packages you have to send to the East Coast or wherever you need them to go if you don't like the PO.

I have noticed that it is taking longer for pakages to arrive. I was given several tracking numbers, all with expected dates, and they all came late.

I do apprecite the job they do, I just dont like the way that they handle the packages and just not really care about the job they do

You act like packages used to arrive on a silk pillow with a bon bon beside it. There are people in EVERY job market who don't care about the job they do. Why would the post office be any different?

Because we are paying them for a specific service, a service which is not supposed to include poor handling, loss of items and theft. Maybe I'm old school, but if someone doesn't care about the job they do, then they need to go away, to be replaced with one of the thousands and thousands of Americans who are out of work and would LOVE a steady position like the USPS.

Guess it just depends on where you are how horrible the P.O. is in your area. At my old address I learned very quickly not to mail out anything, because chances are it would never arrive at it's destination. After going to the postmaster four times about various problems, they gave me the line, "I'm really sorry but your house is located on our training route." I then went to the post master general here in St. Louis and told him of my complaints, but nothing ever changed. I was pretty sure one of the trainees was stealing the packages but couldn't prove it. I had to stop having all my mail delivered to my house and change it to my parents house because I was not even getting my bills (sounds good not getting bills but we all know what happens when you don't pay them). I haven't had any problems here at my new address until this year and recently it has been horrible. I am about ready to quit trading all together with all the price hikes and terrible delivery service. I talked to the clerk I always deal with and he told me in confidence that it won't get any better and will probably get a lot worse. He said they have laid off tons of people, he has lost a lot of benefits and the work load has tripled. Maybe we better be careful what we say about the poor workers as they might start going postal on us rather than themselves.

Great, more 'old school'. Have you TRIED to hire people recently? I recently ran an ad hiring for a position. The starting pay was $12-15/hr depending on qualifications, full time hours with medical and dental benefits, 401k, etc. By the time the ad was posted 3 hours, I had 4 resumes and 2 other people wanting to talk about it, by the end of the next day I had 14 people, I called or emailed every one of them to talk about the job, and schedule a time for an interview. Four people responded and set up interviews within the next 3 days, THREE of those showed up, ONE said he'd love the job but we would need to switch the hours for him, ONE rescheduled the interview twice, and the one interview that went smoothly and was the best fit couldn't afford to take the job even after we upped the max starting pay. The time I had to hire someone before that was almost identical. One ad, 15 interviews set up by lunch the following day, 4 showed up, 2 telling us they'd work different hours, one would need several weeks off in the coming 6 months, and the one we hired that could work those hours and didn't need time off called in for personal reasons 5 of the 6 days she was here.
