Hey Guys,

I have a set of 2003 Donruss Diamond Kings Mark Teixiera printing plates. There are four in the set and they are all listed of 1/1. I am toying with the idea of selling them, but how? Sell them as a set or as 4 individual plates? Do I offer them up here or put them on ebay? Let me know your thoughts.
Robert

personally, i would first list them as a set with a set price and a a best offer option--see how that goes, a player collector would probably jump on the opportunity to get all 4 at one time

You would probably get more selling them separately. I would list them consecutively, definitely not all at the same time. Note in your listing that you are breaking up the set and will be offering the others very soon, so that any potential buyers will know to keep an eye on your listings.

I say sell separately because someone may want them badly, but not have enough money to get them all at once. Giving a little time between listings gives someone time to sell stuff to make some extra cash, receive a paycheck or even borrow money to get the others.

I have run into this personally numerous times, usually with sellers who list a great stash of signed vintage cards. I would probably chase many of them, but with all ending at the same time, I didn't have or want to spend that much at one time. My bids drop or are not placed at all because I reach my spending limit and the seller gets less for their items. Had they listed them across a few weeks, I would have bid on more listings and higher $$ per listing.

You make a good point. I hadn't thought about all of that. Maybe ill try that. I am really not sure what to do with them or what to list them at.

Sadly (for me), the Garvey set went up for sale when I was having some money issues several years back. The common 1/1 cards for Garvey were usually selling in the $50-75 range each at the time and the set of 4 went for $120 to a rival of mine because I couldn't muster up the cash to outbid him at the time.

The worse part, not that it would have made a difference, but the seller was a card shop in my area! I'm sure they were hitting ebay regardless, but it would have been nice to stumble upon them at the shop and be able to land them for a fair price and keep them off the bay.

1/1s for Garvey have softened, but then again most of my regular competition has been absent. I don't really follow the 1/1 market other than Garvey.

Without doing some specific research on him, I'd guess $150ish for a set of 4 maybe?

I am really thinking about selling it as a set of 4. I just think I would have more bids on a group of 4 that of individuals. I know I want to sell them I am just not sure what to do as far as listing them.

It's hard as a seller, but I think the best way is to start them at 99 cents and sit back for the ride. Stuff like that will be found by the right people and get the bids it would normally get, so you'll end up with market value on the set most likely.

Starting things off high excludes many people and although you may get your price in the end, I believe the chances of exceeding your expectations are better if you start low and watch the bidding frenzy occur.

As a Teixeira collector myself, there is a high end/limited edition collector on eBay that will probably jump at these. He pays top dollar as well. You may want to contact him and see if he's interested in buying these, might be able to sell them off eBay and save some fees.

Thanks for the information. Since you collect him what do you think is a reasonable asking price for the set?

I don't go after the 1/1s so it would be difficult for me to say. Good luck!

From a collector's standpoint, I would hate to see a set like that broken up, but from a seller's standpoint, if you offered the cards seperately and increasing price intervals, you'd probably make out better...unless you find the right buyer who is willing to buy at the right price outright. Either way, good luck moving the set. I'm sure you'll do well.

Looks like that collector in the link would want them. The question you have to ask is will he (or she) make an offer or will you need to set a price. You're probably worried about leaving money on the table and he (or she) may be worried about offending you with a lower than expected bid and sending the cards in a different direction and not getting another shot at them.

In all fairness, you should set your price or let the open market decide in auction form. I am not a fan of offering on items myself though and expect sellers to set their price to start negotiations. Otherwise my inclination is to underbid.

I would think $30 to $50 for each one and list them separately like mrmopar said..................I sold a few plates recently on eBay for around that a couple of months ago, guys like Verlander and Pence...................Good luck!
