hey guys, i have a question regarding one touch holders and the older one screw down holders, that are recessed, is it necessary, or is it beneficial to use a penny sleeve on the card before putting it in the holder? will it hurt the card/auto for long time storage if i dont use a penny sleeve and just put the card in the recessed place where the card goes an then close it? what do you do? your thought s/advice on this..thanks

Personally I think a card with a penny sleeve in a one touch or screw down case CAN damage the corners of the card...I do not use sleeves when storing cards in one touch/screwdowns,

thank you very much for your response, i appreciate it. does anyone use screw down holders anymore or are the one touch magnets what is currently being used?

i use the one screws , the thin ones, for my Bradshaw PC then put them in a team bag...works well...the price for the top loader binders was way too high so i can get the one screws cheaper and have better protection.

If you are taking the cards in and out a lot or trading, the one touch is great...but for me these cards never get moved around so the one screw is just fine.

i was thinking of putting all of my pc cards in a screwdown/one touch and then a team set bag for extra protection. i think that will be the best long term protection for my pc. thanks guys for your responses, i appreciate it.

Don't use sleeves for the thin cards. I do create a custom sleeve for the thicker ones though. I get a sleeve that's a little thicker than the width of the card plus the thickness of the card and cut the bottom of the sleeve off. I can put these into recessed corner holders and the sleeve is practically invisible and will prevent the card from touching the holder edges.

This is probably the best picture I can show you of what it looks like:

Screw downs especially but one touches as well can cause paper loss to the card if too much pressure is on the card over an extended period of time and you later try to remove it

I only use Ultra-Pro sleeves and loaders myself

oh, thats not good as i have alot of my high end cards in screwdowns. they are upright in a 3,000 count box, not sure how much pressure is on them as they are stacked against each other, what do you mean exactly by too much pressure on cards?

thanks guys for all your responses, i appreciate it.

Sometimes cards are close to being too big for a certain size screwdown and then once they are in there and tightened they case is too snug so it wedges onto the card

Over time you could see paper loss if that is the situation

I've seen it happen before

Yes, never use a screwdown too small for a card. I bought this as a psa 7 assuming it was due to the chipping on the back of all of these but it has white spots on the back as well.

About a year ago I went thru my Maddux collection and Pulled all screw down holders out. It was a nerve wracking process, There were about 50 Maddux cards in Screw downs that had come in that way so I just left them, After having gotten a Thick GU card in on a trade that had obviously been in a too small screw down for a couple years and having some of the paper stick to it when I went to remove it, I decided to check them all and replace with One Touch (In My experience the Largest One touch cases will hold almost any card I have and not have the plastic front Pushed up against the card) Luckily I made it through the whole ordeal with no damage.

so is it better to use one touch holders versus screw down holders? i think the one touch are recessed where the card is not touching the plastic..i could be wrong. just want to know before i invest too much money into screw downs versus one touch...let me know your opinion on this, thanks

My personal Opinion is that One Touch holders are better. The only instances where I have been unable to use one touch holders has been with some Sweet Spot products and or Letterman cards, some of those are so thick that I have been unable to find a one touch that fits them. I will use a screw down as long as it has the "diamond corner" cut out thingies and the card is thinner than the recessed area so that the card isnt smashed up against the plastic.

i was actually kind of leaning toward purchasing just one touchs from now on. i have hundreds of screw downs already that i really dont want to throw out. what would you recommend i do with those, maybe use theme for maybe low end cards? i was originally thinking of putting my autos in penny sleeves then into the screw downs, because i was worried that maybe the autograph on the card will stick to the plastic holder and come off if it is has been in a screwdown for too long. your thoughts on these, please, thanks

When I pulled all of the cards that I did have in screw downs Out, I offered them for sale pretty cheap, I had around 50 Some ( a few of which were still sealed brand new) Basically filled a medium flat rate box with them and sold them for 20 Bucks total just to get rid of them, Shipping was 10.95 so all in all I made 9 Bucks on the deal but got rid of the screw downs I wasnt using that were taking up space in my office.

is there anyway in your opinion that i can use my hundreds of screw downs on other cards, or would i be better of just upgrading them all to one touch?

You're really only going to run into a problem if the card is too thick for the recessed area, or if it's one of those old non-recessed screw downs that used 4 screws.

the ones i have have one screw on the top of the holder, not sure if all of them are recessed or not.i believe they all are, but ill have to check, ill have to check also to see if there is at least a little wiggle room. id rather correct the problem now and do it right than have a bunch of "ruined" cards in 10-15 years! i dont think my cards are to thick, because im just putting my regular issued cards in them, not game used or thick cards. now that im thinking about it, the auto cards that i had that the autos were stuck on the plastic were in fact the ones placed in those old holders from the early 1990's that had four screws on them and not recessed.
