Going to a Jim Abbott book signing and can bring stuff to get signed. Got a picture off eBay and was going to do another baseball ( have 2 already) was thinking of red inked SS w/ no hitter inscription......thoughts? Will the auto hold with red ink? And value wise is there people that collect that kind of autos? Thanks

I don't have a huge baseball collection, but I've noticed black holds up better than blue, and red, green, etc seem few and far between and in the cases I've seen, the black and blue sell better. On super rare autos, this may not be as true, but I know when a local dealer did a signing with Doug Mientkiewicz years ago, he had some balls signed in different colors as well as blue and black, a couple shows later he only had green ones left even at a decent discount off what the black and blue sold at.

If you use a ballpoint pen you should be fine...also as the above poster said, make sure it's a real ball and not one of the fakes. I have had bad luck with those from before I knew what I was doing, haha.

I have a game used ball signed by Rusty Staub in red ink from the late 70's, and it has held up well, although I didn't display it for years for fear it would fade out. use a real ball and you should be fine, but note the sig won't jump out at you as a darker ink sig would.

I have two balls signed in red ink, Bobby Doerr and Bill Lee. Both are Red Sox players and I like them. I try to get all of my Dodgers and California Angels in Blue, but red would look cool for Abbott. When's the book signing?
