I am sending a letter to Topps as well as cards to be replaced because of damage. Each card is from 2011 BDPP and is a thick card (either Gold or relic) that is located in the same place inside each pack.

I wanted to post the contents of my letter and then post an update from Topps to see what they say about the issue.

I never send cards to be replaced. It's usually not worth the postage and/or the time. But, this time I had to.

We'll see what happens!

Here is my letter:

Dear Topps,

I have recently purchased multiple packs of 2011 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects at retail stores only to find that cards that I have pulled have been damaged on multiple occasions. I have already sent one card in to be replaced.

With this letter, I am requesting that these cards also be replaced. While I will not stop purchasing your products, I want you to know that I am highly upset that I have to get several cards replaced from the same product. I was inclined to not say anything and just suck it up, but once I kept getting more damaged cards (and they were always in the same location inside the pack), I had to let you know.

Also included is a card (2011 Topps Diamond Duos Greinke/Marcum #d 47/50) that I had previously sent in to be replaced because of damage. When I received the replacement, it too was also damaged because it was sent between two cardboard pieces instead of being placed in a toploader. I shouldn’t have to do this again just for one card. Not only did I pay for the pack, now I have to pay postage a second time which can add a couple bucks to my initial cost.

Please replace all of the cards enclosed. Everything that you have requested is also enclosed (except for a wrapper and receipt for the Greinke/Marcum card).

Thanks

I had the same issue last year. They should replace without an issue at least they did for me. From what I understand you can actually take scans of the cards and request replacements on-line !
Thanks
Bill

How were the Gold cards damaged? I remember getting a lot of those thick-type cards creased in retail packs years back because of packfeelers bending up the packs in retail stores searching for hits.

I have a few other golds that have some very, very minor edge wear...but none were as bad as this one...and of course it's Bubba Starling.

good luck. Once i sent in a card to topps beacuse they put the sticker auto on so bad it was about a 1/2 of inch crooked. They sent me the replacement but told me i cannot send in any more cards beacue basically this card was not damaged. I was like :-o

Sending damaged cards back is the right thing to do. Topps needs to know that they are releasing damaged product to their customers. If enough damaged product is sent back, maybe the cost to their bottom line in postage to replace damaged cards with undamaged cards will create more urgency in their quality control efforts.

Well, today I received all of my cards back from Topps (except one) in the form of mint condition replacements.

The only one I did not receive a replacement for was the Greinke/Marcum Diamond Duos #d/50 Dual Jersey card because they said they no cards to replace it with. I instead received a replacement card from the same set featuring Pineda/Britton #d 44/50. So, I am definitely happy with the replacement.

However, I have two complaints.

1. One card, 2011 BDPP Bubba Starling Gold parallel, was replaced, but with a card that was also damaged.

2. They made no mention of how many cards I was sending in from the same product or made any apologies for the hassle. Thankfully, I guess, they at least provide the replacement service.

..

I think the replacement process is hit or miss. I had a copper replaced back in 2007 with no questions asked. However, when I tried to replace a damaged black from this year, I was sent the card back saying they could not replace a card that was damaged if the other cards in the pack was not damaged and then I had to send the cards and the pack wrapper along with it.

If this works for you, I should send you my damaged cards from now on. :D

Good luck with the rest of the cards!
