Show off your ****** cards you just can't bring yourself to part with!

I'll get it started with my 1955 Topps Jackie Robinson. Even though I have a much nicer copy now, I will always keep this copy as a reminder of how I used to collect cards. Condition didn't mean squat when you were a 10 year old kid holding a vintage JACKIE ROBINSON baseball card, even with a sizable chunk missing! Hey, I might be able to graft on the missing piece from another Dodger card from that year.

It didn't get much better than this!!

Probably the first vintage I bought. I got started in 1981 and had some 1975-80 in trades or as a Christmas present that were my 'older' cards over the years. Picked these up from another customer at the card shop I was at. Think I paid $15 for the pair. Overpaid, but I hadn't seen any cards that old in person before.

I have a 48 Bowman Johnny Sain that was a nice ******. Someone noted his trade to the Yankees in pen as well. I'll have to dig it up and scan it as well. I just couldn't bring myself to dump it, but never replaced it either.

Rounding out what is probably my top 3. 1948 Bowman Johnny Sain. This is a well loved card. Nice rounded corners and heavy creasing. Toss in a few stains. Don't forget that someone cleverly noted that Sain was traded to the Yankees. We would not want to forget this when viewing this card later. Of course, this event didn't happen until 1951, but when you are sorting cards, apparently only the current team matters!!

1954 Wilson Franks Gil Hodges

What to say about this one? Well, it's probably only still alive given the rarity of the issue, otherwise this one is a bit too far gone. Trimmed borders, and not a nice job either. "F.B." Who knows what that was for, perhaps the initials of a one time owner? It's not Facebook, I know this for sure. Some weird blob stain near the floating hot dogs. Maybe it's some left over grease??? Add a few decent creases. Lastly, this card was glued into a scrapbook or album. With a fair amount of work, I suppose the top layer of paper could be removed enough to show the back, but why bother? Still, this card is a toughie to find in any condition and it is GIL HODGES. Enough said!

Great thread and nice cards! I love the look of old beaters. Imagine what they've been through over the years but they're still alive.

Hey, If you guys have some 60s beaters on back that you do want to get rid of, don't throw them away! Send them to me! I love them.

My intent was only to keep the best of the worst, meaning only the cards that are otherwise more desirable in better condition. However, the pack rat in me has not allowed me to toss any of the beaters. I have an 800 count box filled with creased, worn and otherwise damaged cards, many of which were my well loved cards from when I was a kid and didn't take the best care of them. Something about them just makes me want to hold on to them. It's a reminder of a time when condition wasn't really that important and the value of the card was not monetary.

Here is mine, at the time (89 or 90) it was the only regular issue Topps Eddie Murray that I needed. I think I traded away the rest of my 85 Olympic Team for it. (McGwire had already gone to a friend for a Donruss Canseco Rook). I seen them in better shape, but this is MY EDDIE MURRAY ROOKIE.

Here is my favorite ******...a well loved Yaz rookie...someone added his HR and average for several seasons on it as well as a running total through the 63 season on the back!

I don't collect Brett, but I had to have this card.
