I've seen it many times...someone claiming to not like or want sticker autographs. On card or nothing! It seems to be an either/or thing with most. I personally don't mind them at all, but would probably prefer the cleaner look of an on-card signature myself, given the option.
I am not here to talk anyone into liking something they don't like, but consider this side of the coin the next time you look down your nose at something like that.
Apparently Orlando Hudson did not care for his Dodger days and subsequently, he generally politely refuses to sign Dodger items. I even remember seeing this posted on this site, although at least one person shared a Dodger photo they got signed. Anyway, it seems that unless you already got him or catch him on a special day, it won't happen.
What is a poor Dodger collector to do then? Hudson only appeared one season in LA, in 2009. He probably had one of his better years winning his 4th gold glove and making the AS team for the 2nd time in his career, but when all was said and done and the season ended, he was granted Free Agency and signed with the Twins (for whom he played a single year before moving on as well). There were plenty of Dodger cards to be had, but what about someone like me who collects any and all Dodger autographs. I have Hudson numerous times, but having him in a Dodger uniform on a Dodger card is much better.
Well, Hudson may refuse to sign Dodger cards, but Topps basically told Hudson where he could stick that animosity when they issued a sticker autograph featuring Hudson in the Dodger Blues.
I didn't even realize this card existed until a fellow Dodger collector and blogger highlighted it in his blog. Of course, I had to have it, so I checked ebay and COMC. One copy on each site and both more than I was hoping to pay! I bit the bullet, did some negotiating and ended up landing the COMC copy. Sometimes it pays to have that sticker option. Now if only they could sticker me an Andy Messersmith Dodger auto card!!
