Someone help me understand something

Mine #18/55 and this makes me think hard about selling it.

You have to be verrrrrry careful.

I recently bid on a card that I had recently sold for $75. The bidding ended at $45. When I looked at the bid history of the card I had sold it was clearly evident that without the winning bidder MY card would have sold for $45.

I also recently sold a card that had recently sold for $56. Mine ended at $42 !

I was slightly upset until I realized the error in my "research".

The private feedback on that second bidder would make me think twice. It's now possible for someone to shill and nobody but the winner can see the ID of the bidder!

Or, it was just two bidders who really wanted it. There can be a scenario where two guys toss up huge bids that they think are too much, but "should get it done" only to find the winner wondering why the bid went so high. I have bid known to occasionally place bids with obscene amounts on items, assuming the ending price will be nowhere near the bid and will guarantee my win. Someday that could bite me hard, if someone else tosses up a similar bid, but just under mine!!

The question is can I get anywhere near that price or will mine wind up at $15, where it woulda if there was only 1 auto bidder. I just put it up BIN or BO for $49.99 free ship. $12 less then his card, figure the loser may grab mine. Any idea the book value?

So after shipping, both late bidders were willing to pay 4x bv?? Something fishy, or the card shouldnt have $15 bv.

Sounds like that book may be off. I have been trying to nab a Hamels auto in the recent past for the AS collection and most I went after topped $20. I have not shopped for his auto lately, but I assume it's still holding some value like before.

Book Value Means NOTHING !


Antiques, barbie dolls, matchbooks, beer cans, baseball cards, etc, etc, etc, anyone with ANY real world commen sense knows these price guides are just that, GUIDES !

I've seen things that had a bv of $5 sell for 10x that, and things that have a bv of $50 sell for $5.

ALL collectibles values are fluid and change like the proverbial drifting snow.
