Weather permitting, I am sending off to Bobby Doerr tomorrow. This will be my first time trying to get him. I hope his health is holding up. He is close, which should cut down on the wait time, because I am a little impatient. Since my initial 5 went out, I have had nothing after day 7. Only waiting on 2, but the wait is killing me!!!

I'll advise on the Doerr results hopefully soon!

In his trademark manner, Mr. Doerr delivers in short notice. 7 days to be exact! I hate to say it, but especially with Duke Snider passing between the time I sent these and when they came back, Mr. Doerr is getting up there in age and I was worried for the entire 7 days. His signature is strong though and he is as reliable as Cal Ripken was as SS for the Orioles. I hope he finds himself in good health and that continues for several more years to come. Heck, the last WWI vet died this past week and he was 110! It can happen.

Anyway, I have never sent to Bobby Doerr, mainly because I just haven't sent to anyone much. Some recent returns by others pushed me over the edge and I sent off 5 requests. 3 came back so far and then I sent this off as #6. Still 2 outstanding, but I am holding out hope for returns from those other 2 soon...

It was almost a guarantee and since I like vintage cards signed, I went out and got the best vintage deal that I could find that I didn't already have. Too bad I can't find a nice 38 Goudey...maybe some day!!

So, for your viewing pleasure is a 1941 Play Ball and a small photo I cut down to approx. card size that came from a 1980 Toronto Blue Jays photo album. I figure he is known as a Red Sox, so why not be different!!??

Thank you Mr. Doerr for your continued generosity!

good luck with it, you'll be hooked after one success. its to bad though that alot of the signers you could count on like duke snider, george kell and such have passed away. not many like them anymore. you'll still have fun even with some long waits. i waited for sabathia for a year and he signed 2 for me. heck i forgot i even had cards for him out there. and i write it down and keep the post mark and stamp on the return envelope

doerr will also sign a baseball for you very nice, ken stabler and dick butkus are great signers also.

mopar i have a nice 39 playball of him and he is a great signer, he lives about a hour away and i have about a 3 day wait for him. he still gets around alot beleive it or not. he just turned down a appearance in the east because he didnt feel like flying. an he shows up at a card shop in eugene every now and then. he just did a private signing, so he does pretty well and said he enjoys signing for fans.

Don't know how I missed your posting before, but that Doerr vintage is amazing! Congrats on an awesome success, Curt!

Thank you sir. I was eyeballing a 39 PB tonight, but already have that one signed, so I passed. 38 Goudey would probably be my only other attempt, or maybe a 1951 Topps Blue Back. Both very expensive.

I've seen some really nice '51's for just a smidge over $200. Yes, both are high priced. Especially the '38 Goudey.

#4 or 5 at 46 days and the one I have been IMPATIENTLY awaiting!!!;)

2/2...New HOFer and former MLB Umpire, Doug Harvey on 2 1984 San Diego Padres Smokey cards. I had mentioned wanting one signed for each of my sons, although they will be in my keep for the time being! I provided their names, but didn't specifically ask for personalization. He signed both cards w/o personalization, which I don't mind.

I gotta say, I am loving the returns and as I mentioned before, I picked guys who were known to have responded in the recent past, but I can't take the waiting!!! I'd almost rather buy the auto on ebay (if the price is right), but it is nice getting to pick the item that gets signed. In this case, I don't know what else Harvey has for cards, but I prefer cards over anything else.

Those are great cards of Doug Harvey. Congrats on the success. Waiting for something to come back is the worst part of this hobby. I find myself being disappointed if there isn't anything in the mailbox when I get home from work. Good luck on the rest of your collecting adventures.

Besides being an impatient person on TTMs, I have done very well with the 5 I picked. There was actually a 6th and the only person who I contacted BEFORE sending. His has not yet come back, but the other 5 have. Again, I only went for known recent successes. I don't dare try an unfamiliar address.

I just emailed a former Mariner at his current job to see if he accepts cards TTM. If so, I will be sending off #7 soon!

I've had great luck with Steve Garvey. Send to the stadium. It might be a little longer wait, but he does sign (usually only one).
