Thoughts on pre-sells. Should I lock in or wait?

I'm thinking of pre-buying a box of 2012 Triple Threads baseball & 2012 Topps Tier One from Blowout Cards. I've never done a pre-buy on anything, so I am wondering if it is best to lock in on the prices now or wait?...especially with these high-end products.

Let me know your thoughts or experiences. Thanks

When the product goes live, the price usually goes up a few bucks or more. When I pre-ordered my 3 Big Bang Theory boxes through Blowout, they were $59.99 a box and now that box price has almost doubled so I would say it's a good idea to pre-order.

If you are going to buy a box of a product right when it comes out anyway, I say it's a good idea to pre-order. While sometimes box prices go up in the months before release (this just happened with Bowman) the manufacturer direct price has really been set so the boxes won't go down in price before release. If you weren't planning on buying RIGHT when it releases, then it'd be worth researching to guess at if the box prices will drop shortly after release. Of course when the prices drop shortly after release it's usually because people think it's a ****** product, so who knows if you'd want to buy any anyways.

I am a fan of the pre-sell for higher end products. That guarantees I got what I wanted and is was usually cheaper. But, I have not bought any boxes in several years as it is more cost effective for me to just buy the cards that I want as opposed to spending big money on the chance I get what I want.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll lock in on the pre-buys assuming that these high end products will deliver some good cards

Big fan of locking in the price on high end products.....from trusted sellers or dealers. Best regards, David

I just pre-bought a box of Triple Threads and Tier One from Blowout Cards. I've always gotten good service from them and they have the lowest prices.

Usually a good idea on high end

I agree with others here that the pre-order is a great way to insure getting a product, and a decent price prior it jumping in cost because of demand. But, you have to do your homework though. Checklist research, rookies/prospects, etc will drive the popularity and price. Reading reviews and board chatter will also give a good indication as to what is real enthusiasm vs advertising hype.

What folks worry about is paying for something before it is live only to have it drop in price weeks later because collectors become cold to the product and dealers sell at a loss to scrape funds together to purchase an upcomming release they have to pre-pay card companies or distributors for.

If you plan on flipping the product right away locking in the price may be a good idea. If not I would wait for the price to stabalize.

I don't sell many cards. I am mostly a collector and trader. I think locking in on the high-end products was a good idea as I don't think I'd buy them if the price jumped and I did not pre-buy.
