Has anyone here ever used Facebook as a means of trying to locate athletes that they would like to get an auto from? What I mean by this is, sending them a message via FB and not requesting them as a friend. I had tracked down Terry Bross via wikipedia saying that he works Gaylord Sports Entertainment, a sports agency. So, I had sent him an email via their website asking if it was ok to send a card. This was a while back and I never got a response.
Now, for those fo you who do have FB you can do a friend finder based on you email address book...low and behold, he shows up as a potential friend, not that I am going to request him.

I have a friend in the hobby who collects family players. He has gotten pretty much everyone that has appeared in the Majors and continues to research and find guys that have played in the Minors. He has started to use FB for contacting them to ask if he can send them a request and has gotten good successes. I have done this with one or two players. Glenn Braggs sent a message back to me stating that he doesn't sign TTM. So that saved me a stamp and some time. You can always send the message and see what happens.

When I first joined FB, I was finding lots of former players, many of which accepted friend requests. I never asked any for signature from any but one, Warren Cromartie. He said I could send my book to him and gave me a PO Box. I sent it off recently and it has not come back yet.

I have since dropped most of them from my friend list just because I really don't socialize with them, but at one point I had Mike Davis, Joe Oliver, Dick Drago, Al Fitzmorris, Ed Herrmann, Duke Sims, Dave Dravecky, Mark Duper, Norm Johnson, Mark Clayton and a few others. All were the actual players and not fan pages.

The only one's I kept were Norm Johnson (Seahawks kicker who lives close to me), Warren Cromartie and Ron Kittle. Ron Kittle is a hoot.

Dick Drago and Joe Oliver were huge Mafia Wars fans and Drago was playing all kinds of games.

Thanks for the input...I will probably send a message as opposed to requesting.I figure maybe my email might have gone into a spam folder, etc.

I have been successfull with a few former players on FB. I make customs of players who don't have cards and I thinked it helped that I sent them a picture of the card I wanted to send them in the message. Good Luck.
