NBA Players Sue Over Being Traded
Posted Aug 28th 2009 1:40PM by TMZ Staff

NBA star Tracy McGrady's autograph is over 16x more valuable than fellow baller Deandre Jordan's -- this courtesy of a lawsuit filed against a trading card company.

Nine NBAers -- McGrady, Jordan, Brandon Roy, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, D.J. Augustin, T.J. Ford, Antawn Jamison, Anthony Randolph and DeAndre Jordan -- are suing Topps, claiming they were all only partially paid for their autograph deals.

The most interesting part ... how much Topps paid per autograph.

McGrady -- $50
Rose -- $25
Roy -- $18
Westbrook -- $10
Jamison -- $10
Ausgustin -- $8
Randolph -- $7
Ford -- $6
Jordon -- $3

All nine combined are suing for $300,000

I think that kind of attitude is a bit harsh. You pretty much summed up most of humanity. Look how many people on this very board flew to ebay to list their Jeter/Mantle/Bush cards once they saw the prices. Even AFTER Topps announced it wasn't going to correct it, willingly taking advantage of less knowledgeable folks who just saw it on the Evening News. Look at the number of posts from people who are afraid to sell a card because they might be able to get a little more money later. How many raises have the collected members of the board turned down? How about if you own a restaurant and a customer comes in, orders the lobster dinner, leaves $10 on the table and walks out? Are YOU a money grubber because of "how many lobster dinners can you serve in an hour?" We are talking about payment not made for services rendered.

The ONLY difference is the sheer dollar amount involved. Millions may seem insane to us, but talk to a guy working 12 hour days in a third world country for about $900 a year and someone making $40,000-$75,000 a year, owning your own fairly new car, having a cabin or boat, or travelling to Hawaii seems pretty insane too.
