Yes, the '78 Topps RC was already signed by Dale Murphy. Now it's time to send it off to Ernie Whitt!

I know, I really wished I had a chance to get Diaz back in the day. His was such a tragic death at such a young age. 37 is just way too young.

A lot of times, those things have gone unnoticed in todays collecting market. I know in buying autos, I have discovered some interesting facts about players signing habits and how they came to no longer sign, such as injury, death, being wanted for crimes!!!

Wasn't Diaz crushed to death by a satellite dish? I suppose that is easy enough to look up.

Yes he was. I'm sure if you did a google search that would pop up. Today, satelitte dishes are what, maybe a foot and a half wide, and hardly weigh anything? Back then, in 1990 I believe, they were almost the size of a truck & weighed about as much. All I remember was he was doing something with the dish when it fell over on him. I love television as much as the next guy, but it's not worth dying over. Such a tragedy.

There are a few I can think of along with one I just learned about recently, who I can't remember.

Mark Lemongello and Byron McLaughlin are the two that I think of.

I find some of the listings extremely interesting when sellers go to the trouble to describe the circumstances.

I bought a John Brisker Sonics auto'd card and only then when I saw the listing did I learn that he disappeared in a foreign and was presumed dead not too long after he retired from basketball.

Congrats on picking up that Brisker auto! For those of you interested in the Brisker story, and what may possibly have happened to him, follow the link below...

When I thought about it, Ron LeFlore came to mind, but he is not a tough signature to get. Are there other interesting stories for tough Tigers anyone knows?

Not a Tiger, but I read in someone's auction that Enrique Romo supposedly got an underaged girl pregnant and fled the country, making his signature a toughie. I would like to find an "affordable" 78 Topps Romo for sure!

Vicente Romo is another toughie and I would like to get him on his 83 Dodger cards, again for a reasonable price. Rare or not, I can only justify so much for certain players based on their skill set, unless it is an absolute need for a set.

there is always Urbina; but he never played with Lance Parrish. that McLaughlin story is very interesting too. I never had heard that one.
