...One of those mangled return envelopes from the Post Office in a damaged mail envelope.
It's always a bummer to get one of these, but today...when I saw the name on the left hand side of the envelope, my heart sank like Governor Perry's Presidential bid. I like to send out to players you don't expect returns from. This was one of them. When I saw this in the mailbox my stomach turned.
To paraphrase Bogey, but of all the returns in all the world why did the sorter have to mangle this one?
I let the envelope sit on the counter for about half an hour. I didn't even want to look at the contents inside. If the envelope, which was three quarters damaged then the card just had to be, right?
Finally, I decided to pry it open and see what the sorter destroyed, and...
...to my surprise, because I actually used index cards as support (and I never do that), the signed 2011 Topps A&G was...
...undamaged...
